Stylish knitted blouses made of cotton, viscose or linen - an indispensable option for summer for women. A wide choice of yarn by composition or color, various techniques of execution and design options allow you to create very interesting and stylish models with your own hands.
Cotton models
Cotton is the most common thread for knitting summer clothing models. It can vary in thickness and twist. The thread can be mixed, that is, in addition to cotton, it can include acrylic or silk. This makes the yarn soft and wear-resistant.
For women, the simplest and at the same time very popular option for a knitted blouse for the summer is a model with a short raglan sleeve on top.
It can be knitted with a regular garter stitch or using any pattern from the chart.
To work on this model you need to prepare:
- Cotton. The thread should not be thin, so that it is convenient to knit with needles. The optimal footage is 150 m per 50 g.
- Knitting needles No. 3 on a 20 cm and 40 cm line.
You need to do it like this:
- Knit a sample and calculate the required number of stitches for casting on. It is important to knit the sample with the same pattern as the blouse. For example, with a stocking stitch.
- Cast on the required number of stitches for the neck opening using 20 cm knitting needles and join into a circle.
- Knit 3 cm with a 1 x 1 elastic band. Switch to stockinette stitch.
- Now you need to divide all the loops into the back, front, sleeves and mark out the raglan lines. To do this, subtract 4 loops from the total number of loops for the raglan lines (1 loop for each line). Divide the remaining loops into 3 parts. Of these, 1 whole part for the back and front, and divide 1 part in half for the sleeves.
- Continue knitting with stockinette stitch or the chosen pattern. At the same time, to expand the fabric along the raglan lines, make increases. In every second circular row, before and after each of the 4 raglan lines, add 1 loop. Do this until the raglan line reaches 22-25 cm.

- Put the sleeve loops on the thread and continue working in a circle until the desired length of the main part. In this case, in the first row for the undercuts between the front and back, cast on 4 loops.
- Then finish the sleeves to the desired length. For a short sleeve, it is enough to knit 4-6 rows and finish the work.
This knitting method is good because you don't need to sew the pieces together afterwards. You only need to make 2 small seams along the undercuts.
Knitted blouses for women with knitting needles can be of a different cut. Models with set-in sleeves are also easy to make and look beautiful. But in this case, you will have to knit the back, front and sleeve parts separately.
Today there are many models that include an openwork or structured pattern for the main part of the blouse and a regular elastic band or satin stitch for the sleeves.
These models can be executed in several ways:
- raglan from top to bottom;
- raglan from bottom to top;
- knitting all parts separately with a set-in sleeve.
If you knit with a raglan from the bottom, it is important to follow the following sequence:
- Select a pattern for the main part and sleeves.
- Calculate the number of loops and rows for each piece.
- Knit the front and back panels to the armholes. They can be knitted separately in 2 pieces or in 1 piece in a circle.
- Knit the sleeves to the armholes.
- Combine the parts: front panel, sleeve loops, back panel loops, second sleeve loops. Mark the raglan lines.
- Continue knitting in the round with even decreases in every second row before and after the four raglan lines. Finish the neckline in any chosen way.
Knitting this way does not involve sewing together parts.
If the back and front are knitted separately, then only the side seams below the armhole are made. If you knit all the parts separately and make a set-in sleeve with knitting of the sleeve cap and armhole, then after that you need to make seams in any convenient way using a needle or a hook. Knitted blouses for women with knitting needles made of cotton can be knitted with one pattern or a combination of several.
Summer tops
You can knit a chic summer top from cotton, linen or viscose. The most fashionable option today is the usual knitting with a satin stitch and adding a small detail - artistic abrasions with a pattern with dropped loops. As usual, before work you should calculate the loops by knitting a sample.
The top can be knitted like this:
- Knitting can be circular, immediately the entire main part of the top on knitting needles on a fishing line, or separate, when the back and front are done separately in turn on straight knitting needles. The point is to dial the required number of loops for the top and knit to the armpits with a simple front surface.
- In any designated place in the front or back, you can add a twist – dropped stitches. To do this, in the first row of the designated pattern, knit 2 stitches together and make a yarn over.
- Then knit as usual with garter stitch to the desired height, until the planned abrasion, for example, 5 cm.
- Then drop all the loops that are knitted from the yarn over. From the next loop, knit 2 loops and continue knitting in the usual way. You can add several such patterns with dropped loops to the product.
- At the height of the armhole, decrease the loops for the armholes in several steps and start knitting the straps. To do this, divide the entire number of loops of the back or front in half. From the side of the shoulder, knit the loops without changes, and in the center in every second row, knit 3 and 4 loops together. So knit to the desired height of the straps.
- Close the loops and sew the seams.
The result is a very stylish and elegant top. This item can be worn with jeans, shorts or a skirt. For summer tops, you can choose not only cotton yarn. This applies to any summer blouses. The table below contains yarn options with a description of the composition and footage for such items.
Cotton based | Viscose based | Based on flax |
100% cotton | 100% viscose | 100% flax |
50% cotton, 50% acrylic | 50% cotton, 50% viscose | 50% linen, 50% viscose |
50% cotton, 50% viscose | 50% linen, 50% viscose | 35% linen, 35% cotton, 30% acrylic |
The percentage ratio of its components in mixed yarn may vary depending on the brand of yarn. If the thread is too thin for knitting needles, then you can knit in several folds.
Tops knitted with a flower or snowflake pattern from the center look very interesting. To work on such a top, you need a set of 5 double-pointed knitting needles. Work starts from the center of the pattern. You need to knit according to the pattern in a circle with the loops widening. When the main pattern is knitted, you should knit the straps on top with a satin stitch. The back of such a top can be made similarly or with a regular satin stitch.
Openwork blouses
Knitted blouses for women with knitting needles look very airy and delicate if they are made with an openwork pattern. When knitting openwork, it is important to strictly follow the pattern.
Usually, only the front rows are given on the diagrams, and the back rows are knitted according to the pattern. When expanding and narrowing the knitted fabric, it is often difficult to decrease or add loops if the work is carried out according to the openwork pattern. Here it is important to be extremely careful not to disturb the pattern, adding or decreasing the number of loops, weaving them into the pattern harmoniously.
Japanese lace
Japanese lace - original, interesting, ornate and very complex at first glance patterns are very popular today for summer models. Described in books on Japanese needlework, they are distributed all over the world, are in demand and are very much loved by needlewomen in Russia.
Any model of a blouse with any pattern and knitting method can be made with one of these patterns or combine several options in one model. You can knit stripes from different patterns or combine openwork with elastic or satin stitch.

Any Japanese openwork pattern can be used as a basis and the front and back parts of the blouse can be made according to the pattern, and the sleeves can be knitted with a 2x2 rib or satin stitch. Models knitted with a raglan from the top should be knitted exactly according to the openwork pattern, since the expansion of the fabric is already included in the pattern.
Japanese lace patterns often contain cones in their patterns, which are knitted from one loop. Decorating lace with cones is not a Japanese invention, but such decor is very common in Japanese lace patterns.
A distinctive feature of Japanese openwork is the combination of several elements in one pattern, in one rapport. Moreover, these can be openwork elements and braids at the same time. When choosing such a complex pattern for work, it is important to knit a sample that will contain at least 1 pattern rapport and knit all the rows of the rapport in height.
The rapport of Japanese lace patterns may not be small. If there are extra loops left after a certain number of rapports for knitting a blouse part, they can be divided in half and the side parts of the part can be knitted with the front surface.
On buttons
One of the modern trends can be considered summer knitted tops and blouses with buttons. The placket with a fastener can be located in the front or back, which adds piquancy to the product. There are transformer models that allow you to wear a blouse with a fastener forward and back, as desired.
To knit the fronts with a button fastening, you need to knit 2 parts of the front or back separately. After that, the loops are raised, the placket is knitted on both sides. On one side, you need to make yarns to form loops.
You can knit a false placket, which does not consist of 2 parts, but only 1 connecting placket is knitted and buttons are sewn on. This option does not require unbuttoning the product. The false placket has only an aesthetic function.
The presence of a button placket is already a decorative detail, so there is no need to add too much pattern, lace or additional details. The button fastening may not be the entire length of the blouse. It can be used to decorate the neckline, neckline or make several buttons on the back for fastening or for decorative purposes.
A button placket can be used on oversized models or any voluminous models. Such options assume the presence of buttons only for decorative purposes. You can make a false placket. They decorate the model and make it interesting. If the blouse is fitted, then the fastener must be functional, not false, so that you can easily unbutton and put on the blouse.
Often, a contrasting color placket is made or buttons of a brighter shade or the opposite color are chosen. They create a vertical line on the product, such a blouse will stretch the silhouette and make you look slimmer.
Many models of knitted blouses for women can be made with knitting needles by hand, taking any description as a basis or by combining patterns and techniques, come up with your own unique version.
