An adult Yaga costume is easy to make with your own hands.

The outfit consists of the following elements:

From a ready-made shirt

You won't even need a pattern for this DIY. Just take an old shirt, preferably one size larger, cut off the collar and sleeves to the elbow. You can make fringe on the sleeves and trim the collar with braid. To give the product an antique look, you can sew on patches and hold the shirt in coffee or tea infusion. Stains and stains will add credibility to the outfit.

In Slavic style

The Baba Yaga costume for adults made with your own hands will remind you of Russian folk tales and Slavic traditions if you decorate the shirt with pagan symbols or folk embroidery. 1. Cut the black skirt into triangles reaching to the middle of the thigh. The width of the cut at the bottom will be 15-25 cm.
2. From the chintz fabric, cut out rectangles that fit the size of the slits on the base skirt.
3. From the inside, insert the chintz rectangles into the cut areas and stitch them. The rectangles can be gathered.
4. Sew gathered black tulle into some of the slits.

The skirt will be extravagant and quite bright.

Tiered

This is a popular skirt model that is easy to sew without a pattern. You will need 3-4 types of fabric in different shades. The calculation begins with determining the height of the skirt, you need to measure the distance from the waist to the bottom of the product (slightly below the knee, to the middle of the calf, to the ankle). The width of the stripes is determined by a simple equation: the total height of the skirt is divided by the number of stripes + 4 cm for hemming on both sides on each tier.

The calculation of the length of the strips starts from the top tier, it is equal to the volume of the hips + 4 cm for fullness + 2 cm for side allowances. Each subsequent tier should be 1.5 times longer than the previous one.

Progress of work:

1. Cut the fabric into tiers.
2. Sew each tier on the sides and to each other.
3. The top edge of the first tier, located on the hips, is folded over, stitched or sewn by hand, and an elastic band is inserted.

The bottom of such a skirt can be left untreated if the fabric does not fray. It looks more interesting if the bottom is cut unevenly with scissors.

Apron

An obligatory element of Baba Yaga's costume is an apron. If you have a ready-made kitchen apron, you can make it look old - just hold it in strong tea or coffee solution for 10-15 minutes and rinse. An apron made of burlap, chintz or linen looks interesting.

• the same braid that was used to decorate the shirt;
• embroidery (flower, leaves, folk patterns);
• applique (mushroom, flower);
• patches;
• fringe.

The apron is often replaced by a picturesque scarf tied over the waist.

Vest

This thing is a colorful attribute of the old woman from the Russian fairy tale and one of the main differences from the costume of the evil European witch.

Ready

If the goal is to create an image of a modern Baba Yaga, riding a motorcycle and engaging in fraud, then it is worth looking for a ready-made vest in the style of steampunk or trash metal. Such an outfit will add credibility and brightness to the image, becoming the main component of the costume.

From improvised means

If you have a vest from an old coat left at home, it is enough to cut it to size and decorate it. The edges do not need to be hemmed, on the contrary, they should be given a disheveled look.

You can take a rectangular piece of fabric, its width and length should correspond to the chest volume and the height from the shoulder to the middle of the hip or waist. The fabric is applied to the back, the armholes are determined by eye, and the arm holes are cut out. There is no need to process the edges.

For a vest, burlap, artificial leather, thick coarse fabric of gray, black, brown colors are suitable. 2. A scattering of bright mushrooms on the shoulder or back looks funny. Fly agarics, toadstools are made of papier-mâché, felt or sewn from fabric.
3. Make a small spider from felt and fabric (a ready-made toy will also do). Use twine or thin strings for the web. Weave a small web, sew it onto the vest, and attach the spider in the center. You can lower the spider on a thin string from the hem of the vest.
4. Artificial ivy is attached to the back and sides.
5. Small bunches of artificial berries and herbs are sewn on.

4. The hair on the forehead and temples should be combed, fluffed up, and fixed with hairspray.

Most often, a scarf is put on the head, which is tied with a knot in front. But the image will become more original if you tie the scarf with a knot above the ear.

This way of tying a headscarf will add a playful touch to your look:

• fold the scarf into a ribbon;
• tie it at the top of your head in a knot;
• straighten out the ends.

If you want to add some grey hair to Baba Yaga, a wig will come in handy.

Shoes

To ensure that the lower part of the outfit does not fall out of the general concept, it is enough to wear black tights. However, bright striped leg warmers or gray long socks with fluffy ball pendants look more interesting. You can glue artificial moss or cut green knitting threads onto old black shoes.

Broom

An adult Baba Yaga costume made with your own hands is unthinkable without a broom, with which the old woman sweeps away her tracks and performs witchcraft. The simplest option: collect branches in the forest, choosing thin ones of the same size. As a base, take a stick 1.3-1.5 m long, tie the collected branches to its lower part with twine or string.

To ensure that the broom is safe during the party, strips of foam rubber, cut and painted brown, are tied to the base stick.

Baba Yaga looks funny, whose broom is an ordinary broom decorated with spiders or mushrooms. A ready-made broom with plastic rods will also do.

Nose

The easiest way is to buy a ready-made nose in a carnival costume and joke shop. If you have the time and desire, you can make this part yourself. For work you will need plasticine, old newspapers, PVA glue.

Progress of work:

1. From plasticine, mold a nose of the required size and give it the shape of a hook.
2. Prepare newspapers - for papier-mâché you need to tear the paper into pieces no more than 2-3 cm.
3. Place pieces of newspaper on the mold and coat with glue. When the first layer dries, glue another 4-6 layers in the same way.
4. Dry. Remove from the plasticine blank.
5. Paint it flesh color.
6. Make holes on the sides and insert an elastic band.

This nose will decorate Baba Yaga's face.

Hump

The easiest way to make a hump is from a small pillow. Straps are sewn to it, and the hump can be put on like a backpack under clothes.

Makeup

The face is toned with a light base. Dark circles are drawn under the eyes, and the eyelids are also darkened. From the nose to the corners of the mouth and along the forehead, facial lines - wrinkles - are drawn with a pencil. The cheekbones are marked with a dark tone. The eyebrows should stand out on the face, giving a threatening look, so they are enlarged with a black pencil. Nails can be painted with black varnish.

Decoration

Slavic-style jewelry is selected for the evil witch's outfit. Large copper or bronze rings and signet rings look appropriate on the fingers. Wooden or stone rings will do. Earrings are usually difficult to distinguish in the witch's lush hairstyle, but if desired, you can wear small earrings made of the same metal as the rings.

Baba Yaga usually has a necklace around her neck. Simple beads with large round red beads will do. You can make a necklace yourself by stringing dry berries, mushrooms or beads made of felt using the dry felting method, toys or plastic beads on a thread.

Any adult can make a Baba Yaga costume with their own hands in 2-4 hours. Having chosen the old witch's outfit, the carnival participant will certainly find herself in the center of attention, because this character of Russian fairy tales is extremely colorful and bright.
