Baba Yaga drawing for children with a pencil for copying, coloring in a mortar, hut, full-length good, evil

There are many ways to draw Baba Yaga, who is often a negative character in fairy tales. The author usually describes her as an old, decrepit woman with crooked teeth and disheveled gray hair. However, there is also a good version of Baba Yaga, who helps positive characters defeat evil.

Drawing tools

Drawing Baba Yaga for children initially requires the preparation of materials and tools.

Simple pencil

A simple pencil will be the main tool, with the help of which in most cases the initial sketch of the drawing is made. This tool is also used to draw temporary auxiliary lines. Another tool for creating such lines will not work, since only traces of a simple pencil can be easily removed with an eraser.

It is better to use B or HB pencils. They are soft so that they can be easily erased and do not leave scratches on the paper. They should be sharpened more often during work, making the tip sharp.

Paints

To color a drawing made with a simple pencil, you will need paints.

Their main varieties are as follows:

Paint type

Description

Gouache It is convenient to use it to create highlights in areas that have already been painted over.
Watercolor This paint can be purchased in tubes or trays. The first option is preferable, because in this case:
  • the paint has a more saturated color;
  • it does not have to be rubbed dry;
  • it extends the life of the brush
Pastel These paints are easy to work with because they do not require:
  • brushes;
  • water;
  • palettes.

The palette is suitable for those who want to create bright drawings.

To make the brush last longer, wash the bristles with cold water immediately after painting. You can use vegetable soap for this. It is important to ensure that the tip always remains sharp. You should check it when wet. Sable brushes are best for watercolor paint.

Colored pencils

You can use colored pencils to color the drawing. Hexagonal pencils are best for children; it is better to avoid round ones. Preference should be given to thickened tools, since children press too hard on the pencil when coloring, as a result of which its lead breaks. A regular colored pencil is 6-7 mm thick; it is better for children to choose one 3-4 mm thicker.

Paper

The type of paper on which the drawing is done is important. Paper intended for printers is not suitable for pencil drawing: it is very thin. It is recommended to work on Whatman paper. As for the size, it is best to give preference to the A4 format.

In this case, it will be easier to switch to a larger size. If you immediately use large sheets, problems with scaling may arise.

Master classes

Having prepared the necessary materials and tools in the required quantity, you can move on to the exciting process of drawing a fairy-tale character.

Simple drawing

Baba Yaga (a simple version of a drawing for children can be depicted on a notebook sheet of squared paper using a pencil or a black pen) will be ready by completing the following sequence of steps:

  1. Draw an unfinished triangle in the upper part in the middle of the sheet. To do this, draw 2 lines. This triangle should not have a base. It should be located at a slight angle. This will be Baba Yaga's high pointed hat.
  2. Draw 1 semi-oval to each of the 2 lower ends of the triangle.
  3. Draw a short arc line under the right semi-oval and depict the silhouette of a hooked nose.
  4. Add a mouth and a protruding chin to the drawing. To do this, draw an arc under the nose, which is directed towards the face. At the point where it ends, another arc begins, which will indicate the chin.

  5. Go to the left side. There should be a short lock of hair, which can be represented by a small incomplete triangle. From its end, draw a long line to the left. Below there should be another line of the same length. On the left, their ends should be connected by several short arcs. This will be Baba Yaga's long, fluttering cloak.
  6. Starting from the end of the sketch, draw the line of the back. On the right side, finish drawing the front part of the body. Carefully draw the hand and the long handle of the broom clenched in it.
  7. Finish drawing the bottom part of the picture. There should be a broom bristle on the left. It should be wavy.
  8. Draw the lower part of the cloak using curved lines.
  9. Bring out the silhouette of the shoe - the long toe of the boot and its wide heel.

A hunched old woman

The hunched Baba Yaga will be depicted in full growth if you do the following:

  1. Draw a circle in the upper left part of the sheet. This will be the head.
  2. Draw an oval slightly below and to the right of the circle. Its area should be approximately 3 times larger than the circle. This will be the main part of the body.
  3. Below, on the left and right of the body, draw one smooth, rounded line. Each of them starts from the oval that represents the body. Both lines go down almost to the very edge of the sheet and are connected by one horizontal line there. This will be the old lady's long dress.
  4. Draw a long hook-shaped nose. It should be located on the left side of the head.
  5. Draw a chin that is the same length as the nose.
  6. Place an eye near the nose, which can be imagined as a small triangle. The eye will be visible 1, since the old woman is presented in profile.
  7. Add an arced line above the head to mark the border of the scarf.

  8. From the oval that represents the body, draw the left arm. It should be bent at the elbow.
  9. Draw a pair of bast shoes peeking out from under a long dress. Each of them can be represented as an oval.
  10. Perform a detailed drawing. Between the nose and the chin there is a mouth line. Here also draw 1 tooth.
  11. Add the remaining lines of this headdress to the arc line that marks the border of the scarf. It is tied with a bow located on the head. Curls of disheveled hair peek out from under the scarf. Draw thick eyebrows above the eyes.
  12. Draw the left arm. A little above the elbow is a rolled-up sleeve. The fingers are slightly bent.
  13. Finish drawing the apron on top of the dress and folds on the clothes.
  14. Draw patches on shoes.
  15. Place Baba Yaga's flying machine - a mortar and a broom - behind her back.
  16. In the outstretched right hand, which is not fully visible, draw a stick.
  17. When all the main lines are drawn, remove the auxiliary ones. An eraser is used for this.
  18. Colour the picture. You can use crayons, felt-tip pens, markers. The old lady's hair is grey. This applies to both the curls peeking out from under the scarf and the eyebrows. She herself can be painted beige. The mortar, broom and crutch can be light brown, the shoes - yellow, the dress - dark brown, and the apron and the sleeve of the left arm - green.

Baba Yaga in a mortar, frontal view

Baba Yaga (a drawing of this character in a mortar for children is considered a classic version) in a mortar and full face will be done as follows:

  1. Draw a circle at the top of the sheet.
Baba Yaga drawing for children with a pencil for copying, coloring in a mortar, hut, full-length good, evil
  2. Divide the circle with an arc line into 2 halves - the upper and lower. This arc line is not an auxiliary one, but the main one. It will mark the border of the scarf.
  3. Draw 2 ends of the scarf on top, similar to rabbit ears.
  4. Draw the main details of the face. Imagine the nose as a long strip, starting from the border of the scarf and tapering downwards.
  5. Behind the nose is the mouth, which should be represented by an arched line.
  6. Draw the eyes. They are located under the border of the scarf, and their upper part is slightly hidden behind the scarf. Each eye is a circle, in the center of which there is a dot indicating the pupil. However, in this case, the eyes are not fully visible due to the low-hanging scarf, so only draw semicircles.
  7. Decorate the scarf by drawing many circles and semicircles on it. Don't forget about the ends of the scarf, which look like rabbit ears.
  8. Draw a mortar, which is represented by a trapezoid. Above the mortar on the right, draw a vertical straight line. This will be the handle of the broom.
  9. Draw Baba Yaga's shoulders and her hand in which she holds a broom.
  10. The bristles of the broom located on top are represented by several wavy lines.
  11. Draw the missing details: the necklace on the neck and the borders of the stupa boards. The necklace is several small circles connected by short lines, and the borders of the boards run along the stupa from top to bottom.
  12. Place the metal hoops encircling the mortar horizontally. There are two of them: at the top and at the bottom.

Baba Yaga in a mortar in profile

Baba Yaga (a drawing for children can be supplemented with a flying mortar) in the classic version moves through the forest not on foot, but in an enchanted flying mortar. She holds a broom in her hands.

It can be depicted by following the following sequence:

  1. Choose an angle and decide what pose the heroine should be presented in. In this example, she will be sitting in a mortar and holding a broom.

  2. Outline the silhouette of Yaga and her transport using simple lines and circles.
  3. Draw a large circle at the top. This is the head. A slightly curved line extends downwards from it. This will be the base of Baba Yaga's body.
  4. At the bottom, draw a mortar in the form of a truncated cone.
  5. Draw 2 more lines from the head - 1 to the left, 2 to the right. These will be the shoulders.
  6. Add lines for the arms. Each arm should be bent at the elbow.
  7. Draw a diagonal line that will represent the broom so that it is located in the heroine’s hands.
  8. Mark the head. You need to draw an arc line from top to bottom. This will be the vertical of symmetry. Another arc line should go from left to right. This will be the horizontal of the eye line. Since in this case Baba Yaga will not be presented full face, but in a turn, the vertical should be drawn not in the middle, but slightly to the side. As a result, the head will be divided into 2 hemispheres of different sizes.
  9. On the vertical line below the point of its intersection with the horizontal line, place a short stroke. This will indicate the location of the nose. Below that is another stroke indicating the location of the mouth.
  10. Above the horizontal line, draw a line that will determine the position of the scarf. In this case, it will fit tightly around the forehead, so its line runs closer to the eyes.

  11. Having marked the head, move on to the hands. It is not difficult to draw them: it is enough to depict several cylinders. Things will be more difficult with the fingers: here it is necessary to emphasize that Baba Yaga is holding a broom.
  12. Draw several straight lines that will connect the shoulders and head.
  13. Draw the knees, located directly above the mortar. The rest of the legs are not visible, since they are inside the mortar. Draw the scarf, flaunting on the head. It is important to remember that Baba Yaga flies, so her scarf flutters in the direction opposite to the direction of flight. When drawing the scarf, much attention should be paid to the occipital fold, and under the chin there should be a bow, on which the scarf is tied. Its ends should also flutter in the direction of the air flow, but less pronounced.
  14. Draw the face in detail. This Baba Yaga will be kind, so her facial expression should be appropriate. It is more convenient to start with the eyes. On the previously drawn horizontal line there should be 2 small circles. These will be the eyes. Above each of them you need to draw short arced lines, thereby indicating the eyebrows.

  15. Move on to drawing the nose. Even the friendly Baba Yaga's nose is long and hooked.
  16. Draw a line at the bottom of the face that will mark the mouth. It is better to make it arched, bending it so that Baba Yaga appears to be smiling.
  17. Add a protruding chin and more detail to the facial expression.
  18. Baba Yaga's chin is similar in shape to the extreme part of the bone. When drawing, you need to try to stretch it forward to give Baba Yaga's characteristic slyness.
  19. Place the pupils in the center of the eyes, which can be represented by dots. Make the eyebrows wider. A curved line should run from the nose to the mouth.
  20. Draw important details that play a significant role in the final perception of the character. These include wrinkles, warts, a crooked tooth. The drawing should also show tousled hair. It peeks out from under the scarf and flutters in the wind. Wrinkles should be concentrated in the upper part of the face, near the eyes.
  21. Draw the body. Give the arms a finished look. Pay more attention to the sleeve that is closer. To do this, delete the previously drawn lines and draw the sleeves on the freed space. They should reach approximately to the elbow. It is important to remember that there should be folds on the sleeve.
  22. Remove auxiliary lines from the body. After that, outline the contours of the clothes.
  23. Carefully draw the fingers, emphasizing the grip on the broom.
  24. Draw the broom, and then delete the auxiliary line. For now, it is enough to draw its upper part - the handle. The upper edge of the broom should be rounded.
  25. Draw the mortar and the lower part of the broom. On the mortar, it is necessary to mark the boards with straight lines, or rather the places where these boards are connected to each other. The wooden mortar should be encircled with 2 metal rings. One of them goes below, the other - above. The lower part of the broom is a set of lines located close to each other. The rods are attached to the upper part of the tool with a rope, which they are wrapped with.

  26. Create shadows. The side that is not exposed to light should be darkened. Shade the areas shaded by clothing. Use a simple pencil to apply shadows, making stroke-like movements. Hold the tool lightly, without pressing too hard.

It is more convenient to outline the contours and then start shading.

Baba Yaga's Hut

Baba Yaga (the drawing for children can be supplemented with a dilapidated hut), as they say in fairy tales, spends most of her time in the hut.

To draw it, you need to:

  1. Draw a trapezoid tapering downwards. This will be the base of the hut. Above it, on the left and right, draw one inclined line. This will be the roof. The lines should intersect at the top.
  2. Decorate the roof. This is done with the help of wavy lines passing under the upper edges of the roof.
  3. Draw 2 windows. One of them is in the main part of the hut, and the other is on the roof. Imagine the first as a square or trapezoid, and the second as a triangle.
  4. Draw a canopy under the upper window, and place shutters to the left and right of the main window.
  5. Draw the logs that form the basis of the walls. To do this, draw several circles in a vertical row on the left and right sides of the border of the main part of the hut. In each such circle, draw a spiral that will indicate the annual rings on the cross-section.
  6. Draw horizontal lines along the visible side of the wall. Draw the same lines on the roof, which is also log.
  7. Draw the roof elements. You can decorate it with several small semicircles.
  8. On one side of the roof, draw a pipe from which smoke comes out.

  9. Draw the main distinctive feature of Baba Yaga's hut - chicken legs. They start at the bottom of the hut and end with 3 fingers. It is important not to forget to depict a sharp, crooked claw on each finger.

Baba Yaga is one of the most memorable fairy tale characters, with whom children begin to get acquainted from an early age. You can draw her in different ways: it is not necessary to depict an old woman who instills fear, because she often acts on the side of good.
