If someone wants to learn how to weave baubles from floss, then first, for beginners, it is worth mastering the technique of creating "masterpieces" from 2, 3, 4, 6 threads. At the same time, it is necessary to learn to "read" ready-made patterns of various decorations from threads and, of course, practice in this matter.

Methods of securing the thread

First, secure the threads in any of 4 ways:

• With a wide clip on a piece of cardboard, a book or a notebook.
• With a regular pin, tying knots on it, and then attaching it to a pillow or any fabric.
• Tape to a table or other hard surface.
• Using a special tablet with a clamp (sold in stores).

It should be remembered that the threads when fastening should be arranged according to the color scheme of the weaving. When the floss is securely fixed, proceed to study the basic knots.

Technique for performing basic knots

When weaving baubles, only four basic knots are used:

• main left;
• main right;
• half (left and right);
• flat (straight).

Baubles are made very simply if you follow the weaving technique.

Bauble made of 2 threads

The simplest bracelet can be woven from two threads.

To make it easier to navigate and not to confuse the sequence of steps, use 2 colors of floss, for example red and blue:

1. Take 2 threads of length equal to 3 wrist circumferences. Tie them together with a regular knot. Secure with a paper clip to a hard base (book).
2. Make the main left knot. To do this, take the red thread, place the corner on the left above the right (blue) thread, insert the tip of the red thread inside the corner and tighten the knot.
3. The main right knot is made. Now the blue (right) thread is placed with a corner on the right above the red one, its end is inserted inside the corner and the knot is tightened. The knots are alternated until the bauble reaches the required length. The remaining ends of the threads are tied together, then connected to the knot made at the beginning of the bracelet weaving. The excess threads are cut off.

After you have learned how to weave baubles from floss with two threads, you can move on to more complex patterns. For beginners, it is worth mastering the production of a braided bauble from a different number of threads.

Braid of 4 strands or another even number

Weaving baubles with a braid of even and odd numbers has slight differences.

First, it is important to understand the pattern of a 4-strand braid:

1. Tie the ends of 4 threads and secure with tape on any smooth surface (board, book, table)
2. Thread 1 is thrown from left to right over thread 2 and under thread 3. They will be arranged in the following order - 2314.
3. Thread 4 is placed from right to left under thread 1 and above thread 3. Their order becomes 2431.
4. Repeat step 2, but now throw the outer thread 2 over 4 and under 3.
5. Repeat step 3, only the rightmost thread 1 is thrown to the left under 2 and over 3.
6. Continue weaving until the required length, at the end tie a regular knot and cut off the excess material.

For a braid of 6 threads, the knitting sequence is the same as for 4:

• Tie the ends of 6 fibers into a knot and secure with tape to the surface.
• The leftmost thread 1 is moved to the right over thread 2 and under thread 3.
• The rightmost thread 6 is placed to the left under the 5th, above the 4th and under the 1st. Their order becomes 236145.
• The leftmost fiber 2 is moved to the right over the 3rd and under the 6th.
• The rightmost fiber 5 is placed to the left under the 4th, above the 1st and under the 2nd. The order of the fibers becomes 365214.
• Continue knitting until the desired length of the product is reached. At the end, tie a simple knot and trim off any excess fibers.

The principle of weaving an item from an even number of fibers is as follows: the leftmost floss fibers are placed to the right, first above the next fiber, and then under the next. And the rightmost fiber is the opposite - first placed to the left under the next fiber, and only then over the other. This type of weaving is used in making baskets from wicker.

Braid of 3 strands or another odd number

The easiest way to make a bauble is to braid a 3-strand braid.

For this, take 3 threads (they can be of different colors):

1. Tie the ends of the threads with a regular knot and secure them with tape to a hard surface (a book, a board). Let it be red A, blue B and yellow C.
2. Throw the red A over the blue B, and the yellow C over the red A. Now the threads will have the following arrangement: B-C-A.
3. Continue in the same order: the left thread to the middle, then the right thread to the middle. Secure the braid with a knot.

Weaving decoration from 7 threads:

1. To weave a bauble with a 7-strand braid, secure the tied ends with tape on a flat surface.
2. The leftmost thread 1 is first thrown over thread 2, then under threads 3 and 4. The rightmost thread 7 is thrown over thread 6, then under thread 5 and 1 (which ended up in the middle). The order of the threads becomes 2347156.

   

3. Proceed to the next step, repeating point B, but the outer threads now become 2 and 6. Continue braiding until the required length. At the end, secure the braid with a regular knot. Cut off the excess. This method can be used for any odd number of threads.

The principle of weaving baubles with a braid from an odd number of fibers is that the left and right extreme threads are always first shifted in the opposite direction over the first nearest fiber, and then under the next two fibers.

Straight Braiding Instructions

One of the popular ways to make baubles is straight weaving. With its help, interesting drawings, patterns, names and pictures are obtained. Straight weaving is a little more complicated than oblique. However, this technique will more fully reveal the topic of how to weave baubles from floss for beginners. Some threads are allocated for the background and others for a specific drawing.

At the beginning of the work, the outer leading thread is tied around all the other threads in one direction and the other. It looks like zigzags. This is the background color.

When knitting a pattern, its thread wraps around the leading thread and goes in the other direction, while the leading thread is free.

It's best to start with a simple two-color design:

1. Take 5 threads of blue (or other) floss for the design, each a meter long, and one for the background, yellow, 8 meters long. At a distance of 10 cm from the end, tie a knot and attach the short part of the fiber with tape to a smooth surface. The long yellow fiber should be in the bundle on the left.
2. The main left knot is used to braid yellow fiber 1 one by one around all the blue fibers (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) - this is how the first row is obtained.
3. Second row: with the same yellow fiber, but with the main right knot, tie the first blue fiber on the right 6.
4. Alternately, tie the yellow fiber with blue fibers 5, 4, 3 with the main right knot. Finish the second row by braiding the yellow thread around blue 2.
5. The third row is made with the main left knot. First, blue 2 is tied with yellow thread, then blue 3 is tied with yellow. Again blue 4 is tied with yellow, blue 5 is tied with yellow, and blue 6 is tied with yellow.
6. The fourth row is done exactly the same as the second row. The pattern cycle is finished.
7. From the fifth row, all operations are repeated, starting from point 2.

In the technique of oblique weaving of baubles from floss, the same basic left and right knots are used.

Instructions for diagonal braiding

Oblique weaving is considered classic. It most easily reveals the question of how to weave baubles from floss for beginners. There are 2 options for performing oblique weaving.

First option

This weaving includes only one basic knot - the main left or main right. This knot is repeated on all rows until the end of the product. For clarity, it is worth considering the oblique weaving with the main left knot. Take 2 threads, for example, pink and blue, 100 cm long.

Weaving:

1. First, tie all the threads into a knot and weave a regular braid 0.5 cm long. Secure the end with tape to a hard surface. Distribute the threads sequentially 2 blue and 2 pink.
2. The left extreme blue thread is the working thread. It is used to make the left corner above the right blue thread and is brought inside the corner, the first knot is tightened. The actions are repeated.
3. The same thread is used to make the main left knot over the remaining two pink threads one by one. Thus, the first blue thread becomes the rightmost one.
4. The same actions are carried out with the next extreme left threads. As a result, you get an alternation of 2 rows of blue bauble and two rows of pink. Tighten the knots carefully so that the rows are even.
5. Having knitted the required length, finish the bauble with a braid, after which tie a knot. Cut off the excess. You get such a bauble.

Second option

Arrow bauble or "on the corner", also known as "braid". In this version of oblique weaving, both main knots are used - left and right. As a result, a pattern in the shape of an arrow is obtained.

Weaving:

1. The ends of six threads of three colors are fastened to the book with a paper clip. The colors are arranged in the following order: 2 blue threads along the edges, then 2 red and 2 yellow floss threads.
2. The left extreme thread (blue) is woven with the left main knot successively around the red and yellow threads on the left. The right extreme thread (blue) is woven with the right main knot around the right red and yellow threads. The two blue threads are knitted together with the left or right main knot. Now the blue fibers have become central, and the red ones are extreme.
3. Repeat all the steps as in point B, only with the outer leading fibers of red color. After this step, the red fibers become central.
4. With the left extreme yellow thread, tie the two threads on the left, blue and red, with the left main knot. With the right extreme yellow thread, tie the two threads on the right, blue and red. The yellow threads in the center are woven between themselves with the left or right main knot.

So, sequentially knit the bauble to the required length. At the end, tie a regular knot, remove from the base. Connect the ends of the bauble together, carefully cut off the excess material. The bauble now has a pattern in the form of an arrow.

Two-color weaving

Take an even number of meter-long floss threads, 4 blue and 4 pink:

1. At a distance of 8 cm from the edge, tie a knot and secure it with a wide paper clip to a hard surface.
2. Distribute the threads in pairs: two blue and two pink.
3. The weaving is not continuous, but paired with a flat knot. In the first row (and subsequently in all odd rows), the leftmost pair of blue is knitted with a flat knot and set aside. Then the remaining 3 pairs are weaved, setting them aside one by one.
4. In the second row (and further in all even rows) the first and last threads are not knitted, they are simply set aside. Weaving is done from left to right also with a flat knot, setting the knitted pairs aside.
5. The third and all subsequent odd rows are knitted like the first row, the fourth and all even rows are knitted like row 2.

This version of two-color weaving from floss is very easy to do, because there is no need to count the number of knots. The bauble turns out dense. It can be used as a watch strap.

How to weave baubles with names

Before you start weaving a bauble with a name, make a diagram. To do this, write down all the letters of the required name from the letter diagrams offered on the Internet on a sheet of paper in a box.

A cell corresponds to one node.

Weaving:

1. The length of 8 yellow threads for the name is taken equal to three turns around the wrist and one thread for the base of purple color is 7 times longer than the yellow ones. The threads are tied with a knot at a distance of 8 cm from the end and secured with tape on the surface of the book.
2. In the first and third rows, tie all the yellow threads with a left main knot using a purple thread. In the second and fourth rows, tie them with a right main knot.
3. In the fifth row, knit the yellow base with a purple thread with 7 main left knots. The beginning of the name (letter T), the eighth knot is braided with a yellow thread purple (working) and finish the row braiding with a purple thread yellow.
4. Using the technique of direct weaving and knitting each cell of the name according to the pattern, finish the bauble with four rows of purple color.
5. At the end of the weaving, tie all the threads into one knot, connect them to the beginning of the bauble, and cut off the excess.

Bracelet with a pattern

When some skills have been acquired in how to weave baubles from floss for beginners, they proceed to more complex weaving patterns.

First, you can make a bracelet with a simple design, for example, a two-color one with hearts:

1. They study the weaving pattern.
2. Take 4 threads of red and black color, 1 meter long. Step back 8 cm from the end and tie a knot.
3. Fasten the short section with a wide clamp on a flat surface. Lay out the fibers by color as shown in the diagram.
4. The weaving is done in pairs. In the first row, the left half-knot is made with the first black and second red threads. The black thread is placed with the left corner above the red thread, brought inside the corner and the knot is tightened. Then the black thread is placed with the right corner above the red thread, brought inside the corner and the knot is tightened. The pair is put aside.
5. The second pair, black and red threads, are woven with a left knot (as shown in the diagram). The pair is put aside.
6. The third pair of red and black threads is woven according to the pattern with a right knot and also put aside.
7. The fourth pair of red and black threads according to the diagram is made with a right half knot.
8. Row 2. The black outer threads on the left and right are put aside. They are not woven, as in the subsequent even rows of the bauble. Red threads 2 and 3 are knitted with a left knot and put aside.
9. Black fibers 4 and 5 are tied with a left knot and set aside.
10. Red fibers 6 and 7 are knitted with a right knot and set aside.
11. Row 3. Knitting also starts from left to right. The first black and second red threads are knitted with a right knot and put aside.
12. Red 3 and black 4 are knitted with a left knot and left.
13. Black 5 and red 6 are tied with a right knot and set aside.
14. Red 7 and black 8 are woven with a left knot and set aside.

Next, weave according to the pattern. It is very important to monitor the tension of the knots. They need to be tightened tighter so that the pattern on the bauble does not twist and is clear.

Methods of weaving with rhinestones and beads

Any bauble will look more impressive if you decorate it with beads or rhinestones. The easiest way is to sew beads or rhinestones to the finished bauble with threads of a matching color, as your imagination allows. The second method is to weave beads into the bauble with a flat knot. The base is made from 2 threads of the same color as the 2 leading threads.

Weaving:

• The first 3-4 cm are woven with a flat knot without beads. Then, 1 bead is added to each knot on each side of the base.
• The last 3-4 cm of the bauble are made without beads.
• The fasteners are made with two simple braids.

What to do if you run out of thread

When weaving a decoration from floss, one of the threads may break, or it may run out, and the work must be continued.

In this case:

• Bring the finished thread to the wrong side.
• Take a thread of the same color and place it in place of the previous one.
• The upper end of the new thread is tucked to the wrong side and tied with two knots of the leading thread.
• On the reverse side, tie the old and new threads in a knot.
• Continue weaving on the front side of the bauble according to the chosen pattern.

How to make a clasp

There are several options for bracelet clasps.

Option 1 - braid fastening:

• Thin braids are woven from both ends of the bauble.
• After 1 cm, connect the braids, divide the fibers into 3 bundles and braid a braid.
• At the end, the braid is tied into a knot. You get a loop.
• The braid of the other end of the bauble will be inserted into the finished loop and serve as a clasp.

Option 2 - tying the two ends of the braids with a separate thread:

• The braids of both ends of the bauble are temporarily secured together.
• These braids are tied with a square knot using a separate thread.
• Finish weaving the thread with a double knot.
• The temporary fastening is removed.
• To prevent the ends of the threads from fraying, they are treated with clear nail polish.

Option 3 - Velcro, button, snap:

• After finishing weaving the bauble pattern, cut off the excess threads, leaving a small end.
• Glue it to the back side and sew on the chosen fastener.
• Velcro and buttons are sewn onto one half of the bauble to the front and the other to the back.
