Irish lace. Models with description, master class, patterns for beginners

The Irish lace technique is an ancient crochet technique. The technique of its production is quite complex and requires the master to have skillful use of the tool. But the models presented with the description turn out to be real masterpieces.

How to read schematics

Irish lace (models with descriptions require the ability to understand the symbols) is created using patterns.

To understand them, you should use the following tips:

  • Open the desired pattern. Then, using a pen on a piece of paper, begin to depict it, imagining that your hand is moving with a hook. In this case, you can find the place from which knitting begins.
  • It is worth paying attention to ready-made Japanese graphic images. They often contain arrows indicating the direction in which to move when making the product.

  • In some master classes, experienced craftswomen share their experience and secrets in the design of Irish lace.
  • If the pattern involves knitting a ring or a half ring, then in most cases this is where the work begins.
  • It is recommended to knit any fragments from the schematic drawing you like, starting knitting from different points. Only through your own experience can you understand the methodology and features of this type of needlework.

Simple circuit elements

Beginning craftswomen should master the craft of Irish lace design with simple models.

Step-by-step master class on making a flower:

  • You need to pick up an elongated thick object. This could be a knitting needle or a pencil. Wind the thread onto it in several layers.
  • Remove the formed ring from the base.
  • You need to knit 30 single crochet stitches (SC) into a circle.

  • To knit a bourdon you will need a thick thread, you can fold an ordinary thread several times. Just calculate the cord reserve in advance, because if there is not enough of it, it will be difficult to secure the craft.
  • After this, you should knit the petal. To do this, you need to form 1 air loop (AL) for lifting. There can be many leaves, but beginners are better off creating several of them.

Instructions for making a trefoil:

  • Select a 1.8 mm hook and a milky thread, then cast on 6 VP and secure them into a ring.
  • Make 3 identical arches from 6 VP.

  • Tie the created arches with 2 sc, then 16 st. dc and 2 more sc.
  • At the end of the knitting process, cut the thread and hide the end.

The process of making an inflorescence of 6 sharp petals:

  • Cast on 15 ch and join them into a circle.
  • Knit 6 arches from 6 VP.

  • Knit 1 half-column on each arc, 1 st. BN., then 3 st. DN and repeat the first 2 steps in reverse order.
  • Tie each petal with 3 sc.

Connection technique

Irish lace (models with descriptions assume a thorough process of their production) requires the connection of motifs.

There are several methods for collecting fragments into a single piece:

  • Fastening of parts during the design process. This means that one finished element is connected to another when knitting the last row. Repeat this until all the lace components are connected to each other.
  • Filling empty spaces with a grid of the desired cell size. This is due to the fact that lace motifs have different sizes and geometric configurations.
  • For beginners, attaching fragments to a mesh previously crocheted is suitable.
  • Cotton tulle is used for the base. If the details are made of thin thread and a miniature hook, then nylon tulle should be used as a mesh.
  • Irish lace pieces need to be basted onto the fabric with the pattern depicted on it, and a mesh base needs to be crocheted around them.

  • If the elements are uniform and have the same size, they are sewn together with a needle.
  • Openwork motifs must be basted onto the patterned material, after which the mesh is embroidered with a needle using the needle lace technique. The fragments are connected with thread stitches, then the threads are sewn using the Richelieu technique. This method is called braids.

Openwork details are used as overlay decorations or as appliques on knitwear. They are harmoniously combined with embroidery and cords.

Models knitted using Irish lace technique

Irish lace (models with descriptions provide a detailed manufacturing process) is used in the design of various models of women's clothing. In order to harmoniously lay out the ornament of the product, it is necessary to make a pattern. After that, place or attach each lace element on it, forming a unique composition.

To prevent it from shifting and changing in volume, it is recommended to steam each openwork fragment before assembling. This will help to align the product immediately. When the individual parts are ready, they are connected into a single garment.

Jacket

The collar of the jacket is made using the method of lace, which contains various fragments (petals, trefoils, circles, inflorescences and cords in several folds). They should be connected to each other with needle braids.

Irish lace. Models with description, master class, patterns for beginners Irish lace. Models with description, master class, patterns for beginners The jacket needs to be knitted with a single piece of fabric using a 2-ply thread. Using a pre-made pattern and a completed sample knitted with the main knitting, you need to calculate the knitting. For 2 shelves and a back, use a crochet hook (No. 3) to make a flat cord according to the pattern and knit along it with the main knitting, while the tool needs to be taken 1 size smaller.

Model making scheme:

  • For a flattened braid, knit a chain of 3 VP, then make 1 SC in the 1st loop. Turn the work clockwise, insert the tool into the 2 parallel loops formed and make 1 SC. Turn the product again and continue the process to the desired length.
  • At 20 cm from the beginning, decrease 1 st evenly on both sides to form a neckline and knit 20 cm in this manner. At 43 cm from the bottom edge, begin forming armholes, constantly applying the craft to the pattern. Finish the work at 63 cm.
  • For the sleeves, take the same hook sizes as for the previous part and knit in a similar way. After 40 cm from the cast-on line, form an armhole according to the template. At a height of 58 cm from the edge, close all loops.
  • Connect the shoulder and side seams on the sleeves, then sew them into the armhole.
  • For the collar, make a natural-sized pattern from thick polyethylene. Along the outer edge, make a flat braid with 3 layers of thread and baste it. Along the inner edge, lay out and sew a chain knitted from VP. After that, baste the cord in 2 layers.

  • Place the finished lace elements face down on the template, creating a composition. Fasten the circles and cords using figure-eight braids. To make a bond, lay a thread from the circle and back, then wrap the threads tightly.
  • When moving from one connection to another, you need to pull the fiber inside the circle or cord. From the finished collar, separate the polyethylene and sew it to the decorated jacket. Decorate the product along the perimeter with 2 tiers of SC in 2 thread additions. Make loops and sew on buttons.

Sweater

The master class on making a smart sweater involves the following steps:

  1. First, you need to make a pattern. The technology for making a sweater consists of knitting a single piece of fabric in the form of a mesh, onto which individual Irish lace motifs are then sewn.
  2. You should start knitting the back and shelves from the desired border. Then, along the entire row and all subsequent tiers, you need to adhere to the following pattern: 3 VP, 1 SC. At a height of 50 cm from the cast-on edge, you need to decrease the loops, constantly applying the product to the template. Having reached the top, close all the loops.
  3. The sleeve design should also begin with knitting the border, then knit according to a similar pattern: 3 VP, 1 SC. For the bevels, you need to add ½ of the arch in every 8, then in every 6 row. At a height of 42 cm from the bottom, attach the piece to the pattern and begin to decrease the number of loops according to the contours.
  4. To decorate, you need to knit lace fragments:

  • 13 large flowers;
  • 10 medium-sized inflorescences;
  • 11 leaves;
  • 4 butterflies.
  1. Arrange the prepared openwork elements in random order on all the parts of the solid mesh fabric, then sew them to the product. Then you need to sew the shoulder and side seams. For the neck, you should knit an edging identical to the lower border.

Top

To make a bright, elegant top, you need to adhere to the following technology:

  • Create a pattern according to your measurements, preferably from fabric. You can make it from a T-shirt or a tank top.
  • After this, it is recommended to select your favorite patterns of Irish lace motifs in the form of leaves, simple inflorescences and roses.
  • First place large lace fragments on the fabric pattern, wrong side up, and secure with pins.
  • Fill the remaining gaps with small connected elements.

  • When all the space on the base is filled, all the small parts should be sewn together.
  • The front and back are filled separately.
  • Finally, fold both parts of the product sideways and fill the empty side spaces with the missing openwork motifs. Sew the parts together.

Collar

Irish lace (models with descriptions offer to decorate an openwork cape) will decorate any dress. The Victorian collar will suit a teenager. The main elements are the Irish rose and buds, tied using the picot technique.

Gate decoration master class:

  • On the cotton fabric, it is necessary to draw the contours of the product in the form of a semicircular configuration with a pencil, where the inner part is narrow and the outer part is wide. The detail will lie on the shoulders. A more accurate option involves transferring the pattern from the dress to the material.
  • There are 5 sections on the back and 2 on the front. The central back segment is divided in half for the zipper.
  • The outer edge should be outlined with a double line, along which the binding will run, the height of which reaches about 1 cm.

  • The collar is edged along the contour with fillet tape. The binding will go on one side, and on the other it will fix the mesh. Sew the tape through 1 cell.
  • Place the motifs in each segment of the product, with the buds placed in the narrow part and the roses in the same cell, only slightly closer to the outer edge.
  • If desired, you can add shamrocks and clover petals.
  • The next step is to knit the mesh. It is best to use the classic version of the mesh fabric with the formation of small knots found in old Irish lace.
  • Work 2 tiers of the web up to the first flower row, then knit it between the small motifs.
  • Attach the finished mesh to the fillet tape.
  • Finally, rip the collar off the base and make a binding. Make a 3-arch crown along the edge, and make the neck using sc.

Step-by-step execution of the product:

  1. The main part of the blouse should be knitted with the front surface using knitting needles.
  2. Make a sample to find out the knitting density. Then you need to cast on the required number of loops and decrease 1 st on each side after 10 rows (5 rows).
  3. After this, you need to add 1 st on both sides in every 12th row (9 rows).
  4. Form a small armhole by reducing loops. In each 2nd tier, remove 4, then 3 sts. 1 time each, and 3 rows. 2 sts.
  5. The back and front are knitted in a similar way.
  6. It is desirable that the yoke be thinner than the main thread, so the main thread should be divided into 2 threads.
  7. Knit the required number of pieces of Irish lace and place it in random order on the future yoke.
  8. Tie the gaps with mesh.

The required number of motifs for the top of the blouse:

Name Rear end Front detail
Leaflet 5 6
Inflorescence 7 3
Shamrock 7 5
Large circle 2 2
Small circle 8 6

Dress

Models with descriptions, made using Irish lace technique, provide for the production of a dress.

Step-by-step technology for producing the product:

  • First, you need to make a pattern according to your parameters.
  • Knit individual fragments using hooks No. 3 and 1, and for the mesh, tool No. 1 is suitable.
  • Prepare motifs according to schematic images in the form of multi-layered “roses”, inflorescences, leaves, twigs, circles and trefoils.
  • Place the finished lace elements on the pattern to form the desired composition, then secure them with pins or baste.
  • Connect the openwork fragments with polyester thread, filling the empty spaces with an irregular grid.
  • To create the appearance of integrity of the formed fabric when filling the pattern with a composition of lace motifs, the shoulder and side seams of the craft should be joined.
  • Attach the sleeves to the open armholes with arches made from VP and SC.
  • The lower part of the outfit should be knitted according to the pattern 32 L, while creating side bevels according to the template.

  • The expansion is done by means of 2 C1H, connected from the 1st C1H of the previous tier.
  • The neckline and the bottom of the dress are to be tied with a motif according to the schematic drawing 32M.
  • Along the joining line between the bodice and the bottom of the garment, as well as along the edge of the sleeves, you need to knit a ribbon, adhering to pattern 32H.

Bolero for girls

Step-by-step instructions for making a children's bolero:

  • In the Irish lace technique it is necessary to knit many different motifs: circles, inflorescences and leaves.
  • On the back you can make a large flower in the middle, and arrange smaller elements symmetrically around it.
  • Fill the entire pre-made pattern in this way. You can use a ready-made non-stretch blouse as a base.
  • If during the process of forming the product it turns out that there are not enough parts, then you can finish knitting them.
  • It is recommended to knit a large inflorescence for the caps of short sleeves.
  • Pin each attached motif to the pattern with the wrong side up, then carefully sew the elements together to create a uniform, solid piece.
