Types of knitting

Masters distinguish 3 main types of knitting:

• Stockinet.
• Garter stitch.
• Rubber.

Stockinet

This knitting is one of the basic techniques. It is quite easy to master the technique of stocking knitting in this way even for a beginner. The technique is suitable for creating various types of products: from scarves and socks to complex cardigans and original berets.

In the first row, the loops are brought out only with the front side. After turning the fabric over, the 2nd row is knitted with the back side. The next row is brought out with front loops. The rows alternate until the end of knitting.

Garter stitch

A simple method with an interesting relief as a result. The edges of the satin stitch do not curl, things knitted with this technique are double-sided.

The secret of the technique is the uniform knitting of rows. So, if the front method of removing loops is chosen, it is used on both sides of the fabric, that is, the fabric will not have a back side.

Rubber

The fabric knitted in this way is elastic. The technique is chosen when a tight fit is required, for example, when making a collar of a bib.

The method consists of constant repetition of rows. Knitting should be done by alternating loops: front - back. All rows are knitted in the same way.

Knitting patterns

Although there is a huge selection of things for every taste on the shop windows, sometimes finding something special is a problem, so many people prefer to create their own products. A well-known hobby that will help solve this problem is knitting for women.

Descriptions and diagrams are available for free on the Internet: it is easy to find a clear video with explanations. If you know the basics of loop removal, then knitting any pattern is quite simple.

Pattern "Cage"

The checkered pattern gives the products an interesting look due to the geometry of the relief.

Step by step instructions:

1. Row 1 is knitted;
2. Row 2 is knitted with the wrong side;
3. Row 3: knit 2 stitches, then pass the working thread behind the knitting needle and remove 1 stitch. The row ends with knitting 2 stitches;
4. Row 4 copies the previous row, with one difference: before removing the loop, the working thread is transferred not behind the knitting needle, but in front of it.

Pattern "Rhombuses"

The pattern requires a minimum of 8 main loops and 6 additional loops.

Knitting sequence:

1. In the 1st row, first knit 7 stitches, then knit 2 purl stitches and 4 knit stitches;
2. Row 2 must completely repeat the previous row. When performing such a pattern, even rows always copy the previous row;
3. Row 3: 1 purl and 5 front loops are brought out. Then there is alternation up to the 8th loop. The row is finished with 3 front loops. Row 15 copies this knitting sequence;
4. In the 5th row, the following set of loops is drawn: 1 front and 1 back, 3 front, 1 back and 3 front. The row ends with 1 back and a pair of front. Row 13 copies this algorithm;
5. Row 7: 2 knits and 1 purl, after which the loops alternate one by one, then 5 knits are made and the row ends with alternating 1 purl and 1 knit. Row number 11 is made in the same sequence;
6. Row 9 starts with 3 knits, then 1 purl, 7 knits and 1 purl.

Stripes Pattern

The relief, reminiscent of stripes, is obtained by alternately knitting entire rows in one way:

1. In the 1st row, the loops are brought out in the front way;
2. Row 2 is knitted with the wrong side;
3. Row 3 is done with knit stitches, the next row is done with purl stitches;
4. The rows alternate until the end of knitting.

Braided pattern

To complete the pattern, you need to cast on at least 20 main loops and 2 additional ones:

1. Row 1 starts with 12 knit stitches. Then the back and knit stitches go 2 at a time, alternating with each other, up to the 20th stitch. The sequence is repeated in rows numbered 5, 9;
2. Row 2 copies the knitting sequence of row 1. The following even rows repeat the knitting algorithm of the previous row;
3. Row 3 begins with 10 purl stitches, then the stitches alternate between each other in 2 pieces up to the 20th stitch. The row ends with 2 knit stitches. The knitting sequence repeats row number 7;
4. Row 11: paired alternation of front and back stitches up to the 8th loop. The row ends with 12 front stitches. The knitting sequence is repeated in rows 15, 19;
5. In rows 13 and 17, the loops drawn out in the front way and the back side alternate in pairs until the 10th loop. The row ends with 10 back sides;

Pattern "Braid"

At least 11 loops + 4 additional loops are cast on the needles. If the pattern should be wide, then a larger number of loops is cast on, the main thing is that their number is divisible by 11.

Knitting technique:

1. Row 1 begins with knitting 2 purl stitches, 9 knit stitches and a pair of purl stitches. This sequence is copied by rows numbered 3, 7, 9;
2. Row 2 is the opposite of the first: the loops change places, instead of purls, knits are knitted and vice versa. All even rows copy this sequence;
3. Row 5: knit a pair of purl stitches, then remove loops numbered 3, 4, 5 to a spare knitting needle and bring out loops numbered 6, 7, 8 as front loops. And only then bring out loops numbered 3, 4, 5 as front loops. At the end of the row, knit 3 front loops and 2 purl stitches;
4. In row 11, you will need the third knitting needle again. Knit 2 purl and 3 knit, then remove loops 6 and 8 to the third knitting needle, knit loops 9, 10 and 11 with the purl. Then, remove the loops with the knit and finish the row with 2 purl.

Pattern "Tourniquet"

A relatively easy method of knitting. Information on its execution options with descriptions and diagrams can be found freely available on thematic resources. For women, the pattern is interesting for its relief and simple execution technique.

To knit the pattern, cast on a minimum of 10 loops and 4 additional ones.

Subsequence:

1. 1 row: knit 2 purl and 4 front loops. Remove 7, 8 loops to a spare knitting needle. Then remove 9, 10 loops using the front loop method and only then do the removed loops in exactly the same way. Finish the row with 2 front loops and 2 back loops;
2. Row 2, as an even row, must completely repeat the previous row;
3. In the 3rd row, first a pair of purl and face stitches are drawn, loops numbered 5 and 6 are transferred to a spare knitting needle, while loops 7 and 8 are drawn face stitches. Loops from the additional knitting needle are knitted in the same way. At the end of the row, 2 loops are knitted, drawn face and purl stitches;
4. Row 5: after completing 2 purl stitches, loops numbered 3 and 4 are transferred to a spare knitting needle and 5 and 6 loops are knitted. Then the removed loops are brought out using the front method. End of the row: 4 front loops and 2 purl stitches;
5. Row 7 copies the very beginning of knitting – row 1. Then the technique is repeated.

How to knit mittens. Pattern with description

When the cold weather comes, knitting women start looking for free mittens patterns with descriptions. This is the most simple and clear knitting instruction.

Materials needed for knitting mittens:

• Purple mohair - 50g;
• Knitting needles - 2.5 mm.

Job Description:

• When knitting the left mitten, the row of knitting should be straight;
• 66 reverse loops are cast on to the knitting needles in 1 row;
• Make 2 garter stitches and knit the next 60 stitches with a rib pattern;
• At the end, make 2 outer loops in garter stitch and 2 outer loops;
• Work 1 row of reverse stitches from the wrong side;

Now we need to work on the front side:

• Finish with four outer loops;
• It is necessary to knit 3 such rapports;
• The total length should be about 20cm, including the elastic band;
• Knit 1 row of knit stitches on the outside, then 1 row of outer stitches on the back;
• Knit another row with outer loops from the outside;
• Continue knitting with a rib pattern: make 2 garter stitches, then knit the next 60 stitches with a rib pattern;
• Finish with 2 knit stitches and 2 outer garter stitches on the outside;
• At a height of 2 cm, make 1 row of outer loops and close the previous ones;
• It is necessary to leave a hole for the thumb at a distance of 4 cm from the edge at the top. The hole itself should be about 5-6 cm.

The second mitten is knitted in the same way as the first.

How to knit a pullover. Pattern with description

The pullover will be knitted in 3 folds of thread, with a fantasy pattern. Size: 46 Russian.

To knit a cotton pullover with a V-neck, you will need:

• Beige yarn (100% cotton) - 6 balls of 1000m each;
• Brown yarn (100% cotton) - 3 balls;
• Knitting needles - 5 mm.

Description of the knitting process of the back:

• Fold the beige thread into 3 layers and cast on 99 loops;
• Knit 4 cm with a rib pattern, alternating 1 outer loop with 1 reverse loop;
• Continue working according to the pattern chart;
• In every 18th row, remove 1 loop from both sides - 3 times;
• After, cast on 20 straight rows;
• In every 16th row, throw on 1 loop on both sides - 3 times;
• At a height of 42 cm, in the raglan area, 1 loop is decreased on both sides in every 2nd row - 31 times;
• Close the loops at 19 cm from the very beginning of the raglan.

Before:

• Using beige thread folded 3 times, 99 loops are cast on;
• Knit with a 4 cm elastic band, alternating 1 outer loop with 1 reverse loop;
• Continue knitting according to the pattern diagram;
• In every 18th row, decrease 1 loop on each side - 3 times;
• Afterwards, 20 straight rows are knitted;
• In every 16th row, throw on 1 loop on each side 3 times;
• At a level of 20 cm from the edge of the set, divide the front piece, completing the left and right parts - each separately;
• In the neckline area, in every 3rd row, after every 8 loops, it is necessary to decrease 1 loop, alternating the outer and purl. Do this 26 times;
• At 42 cm in height, in the raglan area, on the side, decrease 1 loop in every 2 rows - 15 times, and another 2 loops - 4 times.

The other side is done identically, only in mirror image.

Cutout area:

• Fold the brown thread three times and cast on 169 stitches vertically along the neckline, from the outside;
• Then, alternating the outer and back sides, knit with an elastic band;
• In every 2nd row, in the central part, simultaneously remove 2 loops, from left to right. Throw these 2 removed loops onto the previous ones;
• Having made 10 rows with an elastic band, you can take the beige threads, traditionally folded in three layers, and continue knitting with an elastic band for 18 rows;
• Set the loops aside.

Right sleeve:

• You will need beige threads, folded in 3 layers, which will be looped 59 times;
• Knit with a 4 cm elastic band, alternating the outer loop and the back loop;
• Continue working according to the pattern chart;
• In every 16th row, throw on 1 loop on both sides - 8 times;
• At the level of 48 cm, in every 4th row, 1 loop is decreased 5 times on both sides;
• Do the same in every 2nd row 20 times;
• In the next row, block the first 12 loops;
• Knit the pattern in 2 rows;
• Block all loops;

The other sleeve is knitted in the same way.

Gate:

• Fold the brown thread in 3 layers, sew the raglan seams;
• The loops along the sleeve and back are picked up with circular needles and the set aside loops in the neckline area are removed - 187 loops;
• Alternating the outer and back loops, knit with a rib pattern, decreasing 10 rows in the center of the front part;
• The loops are blocked and then the sleeves and sides are sewn together.

How to knit a scarf. Pattern with description

To knit a scarf measuring 35×224 cm you will need:

• Blue yarn (60% cotton, 40% wool) - 550 g;
• Needles - 5.5mm;

How to knit:

• Yarn "Angora" - 400g;
• Needles 3.5 mm.

How to knit the back:

• 78 loops are cast on with a 2x2-10cm elastic band;
• The main part is knitted with a rapport;

• Knit up to 90 cm straight, on 13 elements;

Before:

• Outline the back and start knitting according to the pattern;
• From 82 cm from the set, the neckline begins: 8 loops are closed and the shelves are separated;

Sleeve:

• Cast on 52 stitches with a rib pattern, 10 cm high;
• Knit with the main pattern 11 cm;

• At 25 cm, close the remaining 8 loops;

Assembly: knit the collar strip with 100 loops of elastic, 10 cm wide.

How to knit a shawl. Pattern with description

The shawl is knitted using mixed knitting methods: sometimes with a kerchief, sometimes with an openwork lattice. Particular attention should be paid to closing the loops, then the edges of the shawl will be neat.

You will need:

• Wool – 250g;
• Needles - 3.5 mm.

At the right end, make 4 garter stitches and continue knitting towards the left end. As you knit, according to the pattern, you need to switch to an openwork lattice, adding stitches along the top edge and decreasing stitches along the left edge, thereby creating triangular outlines of the product. At the end of each 3 outer rows, you need to add additional stitches.

Towards the end, return to the garter stitches on the edge. It is important not to forget to remove the stitches. A slightly curved line should appear in the upper corner of the shawl. You will need:

• White yarn – 600g;
• Needles – 6mm.

How to knit the back:

• Cast on 70 stitches and knit 110 rows in garter stitch;
• Block 2 loops on both sides and start raglan;
• Knit 44 rows, decreasing 2 loops in each subsequent 2 rows. The output should be 26 loops, they must be removed.

Left shelf:

You will need:

• Yarn (mohair 70%, acrylic 30%) - 400g;
• Needles 7mm;
• Needle.

How to knit:

• 40 external loops are cast on;
• The first loop is removed and the last one is knitted;
• Knit in reverse rows to the desired length;

Afterwards, the snood must be sewn from the side of the reverse row: leave one edge of the snood put on the knitting needle and, using a gypsy needle with the same thread that was used for knitting, sew the product from the reverse side.
