Rowan is not only small orange berries, but also a beautiful tree that can often be seen in parks, forests and gardens. Often these trees serve as decorative elements of the urban landscape. If you do not have the opportunity to admire the rowan in person, you can look at its image or draw a rowan branch with children on my own.
Rowan branch in pencil
Drawing a rowan branch with a simple pencil is one of the easiest ways, which is perfect for small children.
The work takes place in the following stages:

In order not to stain the gouache in the jar, you can use a palette. Before proceeding directly to drawing the rowan leaves, it is necessary to take into account that they are complex in this plant. Each rowan leaf consists of several smaller leaves connected in pairs. The last leaf on the branch should be 1.
The brush should be applied with all its bristles to the place where you plan to create a leaflet, so that a multi-colored imprint is obtained. This technique is called “double stroke”. All leaves are created this way. · combine yellow with orange on one brush; · use yellow with red. In these cases, you will get autumn or winter leaves. All these multi-colored options are recommended to be used to create the same picture. One branch may have green-yellow leaves, another - yellow-orange, and a third - orange-red. |

On a white background
A rowan branch (it is best to start a drawing for children on a white background) can be depicted using the poke method.
The following tools and materials will be required for the work:
- 2 sheets of paper;
- paints (it is better to choose gouache);
- container with water;
- brush;
- several real rowan leaves (preferably a branch);
- some red or orange plasticine.
The process of creating an image will consist of the following steps:
- Take the prepared plasticine and roll several rowan berries out of it. 10-20 pieces will be enough. Then these molded circles will be used when drawing using this method. It is better not to use real fruits.
- Start drawing. Place one of the sheets of paper on a horizontal surface and place a rowan branch with leaves on it. The rowan leaves should be adjacent to the paper with their upper side. Therefore, they should be located with the back side up.
- While the rowan branches are on the paper, apply green gouache paint to them with a brush. If small children are drawing, it is better to use smaller sheets of paper so that the young artists do not get tired.
- When all the leaves have green paint, apply yellow gouache on top. You can also use brown paint, because autumn leaves are multi-colored.
- Turn the prepared rowan leaves over and place them on another sheet of paper. Press each leaf down more firmly.
- Lift each branch and see what you get. You should get the same branch, but only depicted in green, yellow and brown gouache paint.
- Add the main element of the drawing - red berries. This can be done with your fingers, without using a brush. All you need to do is dip your index finger in red or orange paint, and then put a few pokes on the paper under the leaf prints.
- You can also use another method of adding berries to the drawing. It involves using the plasticine balls made in the first stage.
Winter Rowan
Rowan berries differ from many other familiar fruits in that they ripen not in the summer, but in the fall, often in October or later. They can be seen on the tree after the snow falls and winter sets in.
Therefore, when drawing a branch of this frost-loving plant, it is necessary to make the leaves not only green, but also yellow, which will accurately indicate the time of year.
The rowan branch (a drawing for children can be thematic, for example, winter) in the image can be covered with fresh snow. It is important not to forget to remind children that rowan should not be picked from the tree, no matter how beautiful it is, because it will be eaten by birds, which have difficulty surviving in harsh winter conditions.
To work you should prepare:
- wax crayons;
- sheet of paper;
- gouache paint;
- container with water;
- several brushes;
- 1 candle.
The chalks that will be used in this process have a good property - to repel paint, which results in interesting effects. This method of drawing is also considered unconventional.
The stages of work will be as follows:
- Draw a branch. Use a brown wax crayon for this. You can immediately draw the outlines of the leaves without changing the color of the crayon. They will be colored in the desired color later.
- Start drawing the berries. To do this, first use the same brown chalk. It is necessary to create an outline. Each berry should have a round shape.
- Add a "tail" to each berry, which is typical for all rowan berries. Such "tails" are depicted with 2 very short intersecting strokes, which are located approximately in the center of the berries. Brown chalk is used for this.
- Color the berries with red or orange chalk.
- Colour the leaves with yellow and red crayons.
- Use blue chalk to draw snowflakes all over the picture.
- Use a candle to outline all the drawn snowflakes.
- Paint the sheet with liquid gouache. You can add white gouache, as well as snow - using the spray method.
Autumn
To draw an autumn rowan branch, you need to prepare:
- colored pencils;
- paper;
- eraser;
- a black fountain pen;
- simple pencil.
The drawing process takes place in the following stages:
- Mark the location of the branches and fruits. The branches should be represented by thin lines drawn with a simple pencil, and the fruits by small circles.
- Draw leaves on the rowan branch. There are many of them and each of them should have the shape of a drop. It is also important not to forget about the veins.
- Draw the berries in detail. They should be pressed tightly against each other. You need to try to make sure that the fruits touch each other. In this case, the drawing will be more realistic.
- Draw a branch on which a bunch of berries is placed. On some fruits, mark the middle with a small dot.
- To make the pencil sketch more distinct, trace all the pencil lines with a black pen.
- Take an eraser and begin to remove any unnecessary pencil marks.
- Take colored pencils and start coloring. First, color the branches: the thicker ones should turn brown, and the thinner ones should turn green.
- Colour the leaves. For this, use green, yellow and orange colours.
- Color the fruits. They should be red or orange. At the same time, to make the drawing more realistic, it is recommended to leave small areas of the berries uncolored. This will create a glare.
In a vase
A rowan branch (a drawing for children can be in the form of a still life) in a vase is depicted on a sheet of paper in the following sequence:
- Draw a vase, placing it on a sheet of paper so that there is space left for the branches. It is better to mark the top and bottom of the vessel in advance, using a simple pencil. It is enough to draw 2 horizontal lines - at the top and bottom. The vase itself can have any shape, any size and any pattern on the surface at the child's discretion.
- When the vase is drawn, start drawing the branch. It is thin in the rowan tree and bends slightly downwards under the weight of the fruits growing on it. To depict a rowan branch coming out of the vase, it is enough to simply draw a brown line with paint.
- Draw several leaves on the branch. Each rowan leaf consists of pairs of narrow, smaller leaves. The leaves should be drawn in pairs, using the dabbing method. The bristles of the brush should be placed flat and then carefully lifted. At the same time, it is necessary to remind the children that in autumn all the leaves on the rowan are multi-colored. The leaves can be made two-colored, using green and yellow paint. You can completely dip the brush in yellow paint, and then its tip in green, and apply the bristles with the side to the paper.
- To draw petioles, apply the thin end of the brush to the paper sheet and create light lines with light movements. This will convey the liveliness of the drawing.
- Draw the berries. They should be close together and partially obscure each other. You can use cotton swabs to draw the berries.
- When the paint is completely dry, add 1 black dot to each rowan berry. These will be the stamens of the fruit.
- If necessary, add a small number of small branches to the drawing.
Rowan bush
Rowan is not always a tree; often it does not grow upwards, but remains a bush.
To draw a rowan bush, you need to do the following:
- Use a pencil to mark the trunks and large branches. The bush should be lush.
- On the main branches, mark smaller branches.
- Mark the rowan berry clusters. They should look massive because of the snow on them.
- Outline the branches and trunks with a dark brown marker or paint.
- Paint the bottom of the rowan berry clusters red or dark orange.
- Paint the tops of the bunches white.
- Mark the background in gray.
- Draw snow in white at the bottom of the sheet.
If you want to draw a full-fledged tree, you need to adhere to the following universal sequence:
- Draw a trunk in the center of the sheet and outline the foliage. Do not press hard on the pencil, some of the lines will need to be removed during correction.
- Draw the trunk of the tree in more detail and sketch out the branches.
- Draw the foliage. It is done with rounded careless lines. If it is assumed that the tree is standing in windy weather, it is better to tilt the foliage slightly to the side.
- Remove the auxiliary line with an eraser and start detailing the tree.
- Use rough lines to outline the relief of the bark.
- Draw the missing tree branches.
- Increase the volume of the bark.
- Draw leaves on all branches of the tree.
- At the bottom of the sheet, mark the ground and add grass if desired.
- Color the trunk and branches with a dark brown pencil, paint or marker.
- Without pressing too hard on the pencil, paint over the left and right parts of the tree.
- Considering that the light falls on the tree from above, mark this on the top. It should be lighter than the bottom of the tree.
- Detail the leaves and take into account that they are located randomly on the branches.
- Mark the highlights on the drawing. To do this, simply erase the necessary areas with an eraser.
When autumn ends and the number of cloudy days increases, it is good to keep children busy with drawing. At this time, you can see a rowan branch outside the window, on which, despite the low temperature and snowfalls, beautiful berries grow. Creating their image will not be a boring activity, will allow you to train your fingers and will subsequently please you with a finished beautiful picture.
