Before you start knitting with any needles sweater models for girls you should choose a model, suitable yarn and method of work (cut, pattern). There are several options for cut, and accordingly, knitting method, which are discussed below.

With a round yoke

The sweater with a round yoke is knitted from the top without seams on knitting needles on a fishing line. This is a fairly simple way of working, since the entire sweater is knitted in one piece, there is no need to remember and mark increases or decreases, and then sew seams. During the work, you can try on the product and adjust the calculations.
The difficulty of this method lies only in calculating the increases when knitting a round yoke. Usually, they are already included in the description of the model.
A sweater for a girl can be made in an interesting way - knitted with knitting needles from the top in a circle with a bright yoke with a jacquard pattern. Such models are within the power of those who have some experience in knitting. The difficulty lies in strictly following the pattern and carefully alternating threads of several shades. But as a result, the sweater will be worth the effort.
Selecting yarn
For a sweater with a round yoke, it is better to choose threads with a large yardage so that they are quite thin and fit well into the loops.

If the pattern involves alternating several shades of threads, the yarn should be even thinner so that the yoke is not dense. For such a sweater, you can choose threads with a footage of no more than 150 m per 50 g.
For a child, you should buy yarn that is not prickly. If you plan to create a winter item, you can choose semi-wool with acrylic, cotton or silk. Or opt for premium 100% alpaca or merino wool, which is rightfully considered the softest.
The sweater can also be knitted from cotton. It can be 100% cotton or containing acrylic, silk, bamboo, viscose. Any of these threads will be soft. For knitting needles, yarn of 200-150 m per 50 g is suitable.
Sweater "Agnes" with a round openwork yoke
To create this sweater you will need:
- Threads DROPS SKY from Garnstudio 150-200 g.
- Knitting needles No. 4 on a 40 and 60 cm line.
- Set of 5 double-pointed knitting needles No. 4.
You need to do it like this:
- For ages 3/4 - 5/6 - 7/8 - 9/10 - 11/12 years, cast on 62-66-70-76-82 stitches and knit 4 rows (garter stitch). Close in a circle. Work on knitting needles on a 40 cm fishing line.
- Make a yoke according to diagram A1, according to the size (by age), there should be 208-224-240-252-270 loops left on the needles. Then you should increase the loops by 4-4-2-2-4, in work 212-228-242-254-274 loops.
- Now you need to divide the fabric into front and back parts and 2 sleeves. Knit 62-66-70-75-75 loops of the back, then on an additional knitting needle or thread 44-48-51-53-62 loops of the sleeve, knit 62-66-70-74-75 loops of the front and transfer 44-48-51-53-62 loops to an additional knitting needle or thread for the second sleeve.
- Finish in a circle, evenly expanding the fabric according to the pattern. At the end of the work, knit 4 garter rows.
- Finish the sleeves separately, tapering the fabric evenly. Finish with 4 rows of knit stitches only.
This sweater can be knitted from similar yarn, similar in composition and footage. You can make it on a clasp, doing the work not in a circle, but in regular rows back and forth. After that, you will only need to design the bar for the clasp.
Raglan top
A sweater for a girl can be knitted seamlessly from the top in a circle with a raglan sleeve cut. To work on such a thing, you need to use knitting needles on a fishing line.
The basic principle of this knitting method is a seamless fabric, which is made from the neck in a circle and expanded by adding along the raglan lines to the armpits, and then the work is divided into the main part and sleeves, which are finished separately.
The only difficulty here may be in calculating the number of loops and in forming the sprout.The calculation of loops must be done as with any other method of work, having previously knitted a sample. Using this, you need to calculate the number of loops per 1 cm and multiply it by the neck circumference.
Then you should subtract from the total number of loops those that are intended for 4 raglan lines, there may be a different number of them, depending on the idea. After that, divide the remaining number of loops into 3 parts. Select 1 part for the front and back, and divide the third part in half for the sleeves.
This is the basic principle of loop calculation. It can be slightly modified depending on the model. For example, if you need a pullover with a V-shaped neck. Here, loops are not taken into account on the front part, the set is carried out without them, but in the work there is an even increase on both sides of the neck.

Until the neckline is knitted, knitting is not done in a circle, but in straight and reverse rows. After the neckline is formed, you can switch to circular knitting. For each model, the calculation of the number of loops and the method of work are usually indicated separately in the description.
The decoration of such sweaters can be original raglan lines. In the simplest models, this is usually 1 or 2 loops for each line, along the edges of which in the 2nd second row, increases are made. In other cases, these can be braids, cables or another pattern or ornament.
Then the total number of loops of the selected pattern is multiplied by 4, since there should be 4 raglan lines, and the sum of these loops is used in the calculation for them. Raglan lines are knitted without changes from the neck to the armhole. Increases are always made on both sides of each line, regardless of the pattern chosen for them.
When the work reaches the armholes, the loops of the raglan lines are attached to the back and front. Then you need to remove the loops of the sleeves on additional knitting needles or thread and continue working on the main part. Between the loops of the back and front, you can pick up 2-4 loops for undercuts.
To form a sprout, if necessary, after casting on the loops and closing them into a circle for the neck, it is worth knitting several shortened rows in straight and reverse rows, gradually capturing several unknitted loops of the previous row, depending on the calculation.
If the raglan model, which is knitted from the top, is planned on buttons, then knitting in the round will not work here. You need to work in straight and reverse rows, and otherwise follow the principle and calculations described above.
Sky Stripes Sweater with Raglan Top
To create such a sweater you need to prepare the following materials and tools:
- DROPS SKY threads from Garnstudio 100-150 g sky blue and 50-100 g white.
- The needles are straight and on a No. 4 cord.
You need to work like this:
- For height 92 — 98/104 — 110/116 — 122/128 — 134/140 — 146/152 cm, cast on 84-88-92-96-100-104 stitches with light blue thread on circular knitting needles. Knit 4 rows with 1 x 1 rib pattern.
- Select 1 loop for each raglan, dividing all loops as described above.
- Work like this until the end of the raglan lines according to the scheme A 1 and A2. In this case, you need to alternate threads of different shades every 8 rows.
- When the height of the fabric reaches 13-14-15-16-17-18 cm, divide the work into the back and front, transfer the sleeves to auxiliary threads.
- Finish the body and sleeves separately.
This sweater can be striped or plain, depending on your preference.
With throat
A girl's turtleneck sweater can be knitted in different ways: with a raglan top, a raglan bottom, or with a set-in sleeve in separate pieces.
If you start working from the top, you knit the neck first. After calculating the number of loops, you need to cast on and close all the loops for the neck in a circle and knit 15-20 cm with an elastic band or other pattern. After that, move on to knitting the raglan. The transition from the neck to the raglan can be normal or with an imitation of a loop.
To do this you need:
- Double the number of loops: 1 knit, 1 purl from the yarn over and continue until the end of the row. It is important to have an even number of loops and the row should end with a purl loop.
- Then make 4 rows of hollow elastic: alternate rows where the front loops are knitted first and the back loops are removed, then the back loops are knitted and the front loops are removed. Repeat these 2 rows again.
- In the next row, return the original number of loops, decreasing all the ones you have cast on (all the front loops). You need to knit the purl and front loops together with a purl loop. This will create a relief braid, an imitation of a scallop.
- Make the final row with knit stitches in a circle.
This method of transition from the neck to the main fabric looks very nice on the product, makes it neat and looks like a purchased, quality product.
When knitting from below with a raglan or separate parts, the neck is knitted only after assembling the parts, when the neck is formed. The loops are raised around the neck and the neck is knitted to the desired height. This can be a stand-up collar without a hem or with a hem in 2 folds. Here you can also imitate a sewn-on neck.
Another way to design a stand-up collar is a sewn-on stand-up collar. So you need to knit a stand-up collar in 1 or 2 folds and sew it to the neck using any method (knitted seam or sling stitch)
With an openwork pattern
It is better to knit a sweater for a girl with an openwork pattern using fairly thin yarn. All openwork creates a beautiful lace fabric that looks interesting from a thin thread, the footage of which is not less than 200 m per 100 g of yarn. Otherwise, dense transitions or too large holes are formed when yarning over.
You can use the lace alone for the entire sweater or make a combination of patterns to your taste. Sweaters with lace on the front and back and smooth sleeves or with sleeves knitted with a rib will look stylish and modern. Here you can use any method of work, both raglan on top and separate knitting from the bottom with a set-in classic sleeve.
Sweater "Eirlys"
This is a very stylish and easy to make sweater suitable for girls from 2 to 12 years old. It has a simple pattern. It is knitted with separate parts: the back, the front and 2 sleeves. The back and the front have an openwork pattern, the sleeves are satin stitch.
To work you need:
- Threads DROPS AIR from Garnstudio 150-250 g.
- Knitting needles No. 5.5, straight and on a fishing line.
Do it like this:
- The back and front are knitted in one piece in the round up to the armholes. To do this, cast on 104-108-116-120-128-136 stitches and knit 4 rows in garter stitch.
- Then work according to patterns A1, A2, A3 according to size.
- At a height of 32-35-38-42-46-50 cm, divide the work into front and back, finish separately, forming the neckline.
- For the sleeves, cast on 28-28-30-30-32-32 stitches and knit according to the pattern using regular stocking stitch until the height is 27-32-36-40-44-48 cm.
Afterwards you need to sew on the sleeves and complete the shoulder seams.
With braids
Sweaters with braids look very interesting and stylish. Today, the fashion for such models gives a complete carte blanche for creativity. Braids can be included in any drawing or a sweater can be made only from them. You can decorate the work with one braid in the center or knit an elastic band and a neck from braids.

The basic principle of knitting a cable for any sweater can be considered the following:
- For one braid, you need to select at least 6 loops and divide them conditionally into 3 equal parts.
- Knit the braid with front loops for 2 rows.
- In the next row, cross the 1st and 2nd parts of the braid, leaving the loops of the 1st part in front of the work, then knit the loops of the 2nd part, then knit the loops of the 1st part and the 3rd part as front loops.
- Then knit several rows of knit stitches without crossing.
- Now you need to cross parts 2 and 3. To do this, knit the loops of part 1, leave the loops of part 2 behind the work, knit the loops of part 3 and after the loop of part 2.
- Knit several rows without crossing and repeat all points 2 through 6 again.
A variation of the braid can be a tourniquet, when only 2 parts are crossed, or an outward braid, when 4 parts are crossed outward, to the left and right of the middle.Braids combined with openwork and a mesh pattern look very interesting when yarn overs are knitted. There are many varieties of such braids. In them, the mesh is included between the braids or between the crossings.
Sweater "Yulva" with raglan braids on top
To work on this sweater you will need:
- Threads DROPS AIR from Garnstudio 200-300 g.
- A set of double-pointed knitting needles and circular needles No. 5 and 6.
Do it like this:
- For sizes 92-98/104-110/116-122/128-134/140-146/152 cast on 132-142-150-150-150-160 on circular needles and knit with 2x2 rib pattern 4 cm.
- Divide the work into parts, highlight the loops of the raglan, sleeves and back.
- Knit the sleeve loops as face loops. Knit the front and back loops according to pattern A3 for braids, alternating with purl loops.
- When the work reaches 13-14-15-16-17-18 cm, divide the work into the back and front, transfer the sleeves to auxiliary threads.
- Finish the body and sleeves separately according to the pattern.
A sweater like this can be knitted with braids in the front only or in the front and back.
Striped
A striped sweater is very good for a child. It can be bright, cheerful and playful. Knitting such a sweater is quite simple, you do not need to invent a pattern and rely on the simplest calculations. The strip itself will become a decoration of the model.
The stripe can be wide, narrow, alternate between both options. You can choose 2 main colors and alternate them or choose several shades that will change in a certain sequence.
The striped sweater can be knitted with a raglan top or bottom.
The model will look interesting and fashionable when the main fabric is knitted in one tone, and the sleeves are striped, or, conversely, the front and back are striped, and the sleeves are one-color. The strip can be enhanced with a pattern, any openwork. For example, stripes of one tone are knitted with satin stitch, and stripes of a contrasting color with openwork.
With a picture
A sweater with a pattern can be truly childish and colorful. The design on the product can be knitted during the process or embroidered after, when the sweater is finished. It depends on the size of the pattern and its complexity. The pattern can be in the form of an ornament or with an image of any plot or hero.
Any jacquard ornament is knitted in the process of work according to a complex pattern with alternation of different shades of threads. The difficulty here is to carefully introduce one or another thread into the work, leaving them crossed with the previous thread at the back so that the back side is neat.

Any plot or character can be knitted on the front or back of the sweater or embroidered afterwards. Any knitting or embroidery pattern can be used for the work.
Jumper with a deer
This sweater is quite easy to knit. It is knitted in separate parts (back, front, 2 sleeves) using a simple pattern. Afterwards, all the parts are sewn together. The special feature is the deer pattern. It should be knitted using the suggested pattern.
To work you need:
- DROPS NEPAL threads from Garnstudio in different shades: 200-400 g red, 50-100 g blue, 50 g each beige, light beige, brown and gold.
- Needles No. 5.
- Hook No. 4.
Do it like this:
- First, you need to knit the back. To do this, cast on 54-58-62-66-70-74 stitches with blue thread, knit a 5 cm elastic band, then switch to stocking stitch. Knit the strip with blue thread and change the thread to red. Knit according to the pattern.
- For the front, cast on 54-58-62-66-70-74 stitches with blue thread, knit a 5 cm rib, then switch to stocking stitch. Knit according to the pattern, alternating threads of different shades.
- For the sleeves, cast on 28-28-32-32-32-36 stitches with red thread and knit according to the pattern. At a height of 26-30-34-38-42-46, close the stitches.
- Assemble all the pieces with a knitted stitch.
All that remains is to design the deer's muzzle. To do this, crochet the eyes and chain. Make a pompom for the nose and sew on the bangs. The eyes are crocheted with brown thread from an amigurumi ring using widening stitches.
A pompom for the nose can be made from red threads using a special device or simply by winding the threads onto a strip of cardboard, pulling it in the middle and cutting it at the edge.
