Step by step instructions for drawing with a simple pencil

Sketch

Procedure:
- Draw an elongated oval in the center of the sheet.
- The pike's head in this drawing will be on the right side, and the tail on the left. First, you need to mark the location of the gills. The pike has a large head. Therefore, from the edge of the oval, you need to put a dot in the area of 1/3 of the body.
- Draw the gills with an arched line.
- Give the head the correct shape. Draw a high forehead and a long muzzle for the fish.
- The jaws should be depicted as closed. The line dividing them should be arched, and its ends should be lowered downwards.
- Draw a circle in the eye area.
- Use small ovals to indicate the location of the dorsal and ventral fins.

Detailing
Using a hard-soft pencil, you need to draw all the details:
- On the head, highlight the forehead with an arc.
- Draw the hollows under the eyes.
- On the jaws, depict several folds of skin, closer to the corners of the mouth.
- Give each fin a clearer outline. Their edges should have sharp serrations. Also add small spikes to the tail.
- Draw the fin bones as curved lines.
- Add a few small lines near the gills. They will imitate scales.
- Draw a round pupil inside the eye.
Use a soft pencil to show a small dent near the eye. Erase all unnecessary lines with an eraser.
Hatching
Strokes are applied with a soft pencil in certain directions.
- Shade the tail fin with vertical lines.
- Use horizontal strokes to paint the lower fins.
- Paint the upper fin with diagonal stripes.
- Shade the lower part of the body and tail with horizontal and curved lines.
- Apply a few strokes to the head area to indicate dark areas.

- Use green paint to darken the upper part of the body in the middle and the area around the eye.
- Let the paint dry.
- Using a thin brush, pick up some orange color and paint over all the fins and the eye.
- Mix white paint with green in a 1:1 ratio.
- Using a medium sized brush, paint 5-6 stripe-like spots on the bottom of the fish's body.
- Paint the middle of the gills with this color.
- Using a thin brush, pick up some white paint and make a few dots on the upper part of the body.
Outline the pike using black watercolor and a thin, soft-bristled brush.
Pike in cartoon style
The pike (a drawing for children under 3 years old can be colored with finger paints), drawn in a cartoon style, has a humanized face, hair, eyebrows and even a hat with a flower. This style of drawing is suitable for preschoolers.
How to draw:
- Use a simple pencil to draw the body of a fish with a large head. It can be drawn slightly curved.
- The muzzle should be elongated and the mouth open. Draw semicircular teeth in the mouth.
- Draw the fish's eye with eyelid and eyelashes.
- In the cheek area, draw a blush in the form of a small circle.
- Draw an arched, thick eyebrow above the eye.
- The gills of this pike will be covered with a kerchief. Draw the ends of the kerchief tied in a knot at the bottom.
- On the head, depict a hat with a wide brim, a ribbon and a small flower.
- In front, tufts of hair will be visible from under the headdress. They can be depicted schematically.

Pike on the river bottom, gouache painting
The drawing presented in this master class, like the previous one, is made in a cartoon style, only here the background will be worked out. Such a pike can be drawn by children over 5 years old.
For coloring you will need gouache in 6 colors:
- green;
- white;
- orange;
- red;
- blue;
- black.
The sketch is drawn with a pencil marked "H2".
Procedure:
- Use a pencil to draw the body of a pike with a large head.
- Draw the fins on the tail, belly and back.
- Mark the gills. Draw a slightly open mouth with sharp teeth. The mouth should depict a smile.
- In the area of the gills, draw an arched line that will imitate plump cheeks.
- Draw the fish's eye with an iris and pupil.
- Add small, round spots on the back.
- Below, under the fish, depict the bottom of the river in the form of 2 small hills.
- Seaweed will grow from each hill. They can be drawn as lines intertwined with each other. Each bush should have 3-4 sheets of seaweed.
- Draw some small pebbles on the bottom.
- First you need to paint the pike. Mix green gouache with white in a 1:1 ratio and paint the body of the fish.
- Paint the spots on the back with green, without any other impurities.
- Mix green with a drop of brown and darken the lower part of the body, as well as the area around the eyes and mouth.
- Paint all the fins orange.
- Paint the inside of the mouth with red.
- Mix green and blue gouache in a 2:1 ratio and paint over the seaweed.
- Mix blue with white in a ratio of 1:3, paint the top of the sheet, as well as the iris of the fish's eye.
- Mix blue gouache with white in a 1:2 ratio, paint the middle of the sheet. Using a medium-thick brush with hard bristles, draw the silhouettes of grass blades and seaweed in the background, going to the upper, lighter part of the background.
- Paint the bottom and mounds blue.
When the drawing is dry, it needs to be outlined with black gouache using a thin brush.
How to draw a pike in a lake with colored pencils
The pike (a drawing for younger children can be schematic, without very small details), drawn in the picture, can swim in the lake. To make such a drawing, you will need pencils of 3 colors: blue, green and brown. You will also need a simple pencil and 2 felt-tip pens of blue and green colors.
How to draw:
- Place the A4 sheet of paper horizontally on the table.
- Divide it into 2 parts with an arc-shaped strip horizontally.
- The lower part is the lake. There you need to depict a swimming pike. Its body should be slightly curved, as if the fish is turning around to swim in the other direction.
- The head should be round, with a pointed nose.
- On the body you need to draw fins in the form of inverted triangles.
- Draw the tail fin double.
- Mark the gills, draw the eye and the line dividing the jaws.
- Draw small waves in the lake.
- The upper part of the drawing should show the shore. You can draw alternating tufts of grass with 3 branches of reeds.
- Use a green pencil to color the pike and grass on the shore.
- Paint the lake blue.
- Use a brown pencil to color the reeds.
Then you need to outline the pike and tufts of grass along the contour with a green marker, and the waves in the lake with a blue one.
Pike drawn with pastel pencils
Pastel pencils are brighter than regular colored ones. They also blend well and can be mixed together. This drawing technique is suitable for children over 8 years old.

Step-by-step implementation:
- Draw a large fish body with an elongated head.
- Mark the location of the gills.
- Draw the eye and the line that separates the jaws.
- Under the head, at the bottom of the body, draw a paired fin with zigzag edges.
- Draw a single fin in the middle of the belly, and add another pair closer to the tail.
- The tail fin should be large and double.
- Draw another large fin on the back, placing it closer to the tail.
- Now, using a yellow pencil, you need to lightly shade the upper and tender part of the body in the middle.
- Paint the middle of the body and the top of the head light green.
- Use dark green to densely shade the upper and lower parts of the body, and also paint over the bases of the fins.
- Using a brown pencil, draw a few faint diagonal strokes down the middle of the body and color in the top of each fin.
- Using a grey pencil, draw a zigzag line and another small arc near the gills.

How to draw an angry pike with markers
Another cartoon-style drawing. Here the pike will be clearly displeased.
She will have sharp teeth and a predatory look. What markers will you need:
- dark green;
- light brown;
- dark brown;
- orange.
You will also need a black marker for outlining and a white corrector to create highlights.
How to draw:
- Draw a small curved body of the fish.
- Draw the head elongated and sickle-shaped.
- Draw a large round eye with an iris and pupil.
- Mark the gills with an arched line.
- Draw the mouth as a smooth line that first rises, then falls, and then rises again towards the end. This curve will help to imitate a malicious smile.
- Draw a frowning eyebrow above the eye. Its inner edge should be lowered, slightly covering the eye, and the outer edge, on the contrary, strongly raised.
- On the body, at the top and bottom, depict 2 rounded fins.
- The caudal fin should be double.
- Draw the fin bones.
- On the side, draw spots in the form of wide stripes and small circles.

- Small children have difficulty drawing small elements. It is advisable to give them the opportunity to draw large pictures on A3 sheets of paper.
- It is best to draw with felt-tip pens on Whatman paper. This paper is thicker than others. It is difficult to damage. Even if the child paints one area several times. It will not roll.
