Every year, elementary schools hold competitions for the best drawing dedicated to friendship. These events help children broaden their horizons and learn to express emotions through drawing. You need to know what tools and materials to prepare for the lesson, as well as consider several instructions describing various ideas for drawing pictures on this topic.
What you need for drawing
What tools should be at hand:
- simple hard-soft pencil;
- sharpener;
- eraser;
- set of art brushes;
- palette for mixing paints;
- black felt-tip pen or marker.
You can color the picture using any materials. The main thing is to choose the right paper. Thin sheets of paper are suitable for drawing with pencils and wax crayons. For paints, you need a denser material that will not deform when exposed to moisture.
The table will help you choose the right paper for drawing with different materials:
Type of paper | Density | What can you draw on it with? |
Writing | 68 g/m2 | With simple and colored pencils |
Office | 80 g/m2 | |
Album | 100-120 g/m2 | Gouache, simple, colored and wax pencils, as well as felt-tip pens |
Watercolor | 200-250 g/m2 | With watercolor pencils and any paints |
Whatman | 200-300 g/m2 | Gouache, felt-tip pens, colored and wax pencils |
Paper with a rough surface is suitable for translucent paints. It absorbs moisture well. Watercolors can be painted on Whatman paper, but then you will have to be more careful so that the paint does not spread over the smooth surface of the sheet.

Pattern variations
A drawing on the theme of Friendship can be done using any materials. The main thing is that the drawn picture reflects the given theme.
Before the lesson, you need to talk to the child. Ask him how he understands the meaning of the word "friendship". Find out if he has friends, what is good about friendship and why you need to be able to be a friend. The emotions that the child will experience during the conversation should be captured in the drawing, using bright colors and images of cheerful characters.

Drawing with watercolor pencils
A drawing on the theme of Friendship can be done using watercolor pencils. The peculiarity of such pencils is that they can be washed with water using a brush. The colored strokes will turn into colored water, and after drying, the drawing will look as if it was painted with watercolors.
This picture will show 5 children standing in a circle with their hands in a stack.
How to draw:
- Using a simple pencil, draw 5 circles, placing them in a circle. These will be the children's heads.

Drawing with Cheburashka and Gena, made with wax crayons

In this master class the drawing is done with wax crayons.

Examples of images for copying, tips for beginners
What aspiring artists need to know:
- You can't rub the paper area intensively and for a long time with an eraser. If the sheet of paper has started to become thin and roll up, it's better to take a new one. The damaged area will be difficult to color, and this damage will be noticeable and will spoil the look of the picture.
- When sketching with a simple pencil, do not press on the tool. The lines should be thin and barely noticeable.
- To avoid changing the water in the brush washing cup too often, you can prepare 2-3 containers at once. Wash off the paint from the brushes by color, for example, black and brown paints can be washed off in jar #1, red and orange in container #2, and blue and green in cup #3.

- To help the paints dry faster, you can blow on the paper with a hair dryer. The main thing is not to bring it too close to the drawing. A strong stream of air can move the paint from its place, and then a drop of colored water will run through the entire picture, ruining it. The optimal distance for drying is 30 cm.
A drawing dedicated to friendship should be colorful and bright to reflect the positive emotions of the characters depicted on it. Pictures can be supplemented with inscriptions and slogans to better reveal the theme.
