The fairy-tale hero was first encountered in comics of a Canadian publication in 1889. In 1954, Nikolai Nosov's books were published, where the main character was Dunno. Thus, the character spread among Soviet countries. Later, various animated films appeared.
Drawing a character is quite difficult, as it requires working out various small elements of the drawing. Using step-by-step execution of the work, both children and adults can create a drawing.
Pencil drawing
Dunno (drawing for children in pencil) is the main character of the book "The Adventures of Dunno". Reading such literature allows not only to captivate the child, but also develops the imagination.
Pencils, paper and supplies
To complete the drawing you will need:
- a simple pencil (it is advisable to use several pencils of different hardness);
- eraser;
- sharpener;
- white sheet of paper.
Using harder pencils, you can create clear lines. The soft lead of the pencil creates light lines that can be erased later without leaving marks.
Step by step process of execution
Step-by-step process of completing the work:
- Draw the character's "skeleton" on a sheet of paper. To do this, use jagged lines, drawing them with a soft pencil. The approximate location of the lines can be seen in the image.
- In the upper part of the drawing, draw an uneven oval – Dunno’s head. Around the head, create a large halo, shaped like a seed.
- Using the lines already drawn, make the person more three-dimensional.
- Draw the hat with a sharp peak, but at the same time maintain the roundness of the brim.
- The limbs should be more obvious, but not detailed. The arms are shaped like a trapezoid, and the legs are a rectangle combined with an isosceles triangle.
- Dunno's face is quite large and distinct, you can see large cheeks that stand out clearly in the picture.
- Using a pencil with a harder lead, make the drawing more natural. To do this, you will need to draw the boots (mark the socks and heels), pants, shirt and tie of the character.
- Also add Dunno's characteristic hairstyle - hair raised high (at the same time, you can see the "torn" edges, which add more naturalness to the drawing), add a hat.
- Add a heart shape to the upper part of Dunno's face and draw ears to the lower part.
- On the previously marked area of the face, draw the eyes, nose and mouth of Dunno. Also, do not forget about the highly raised eyebrows. For greater naturalness, you can add a few lines on the ears to show the volume of the drawing.
- Add a few lines to the folds on the sleeves, and also detail the hands – draw the fingers and skin folds.
- Draw a belt at the junction of the pants and shirt, and add a sole to the boots and highlight the folds at the folds.
- Using an eraser, remove all unnecessary elements outlined with a soft pencil.
- Using a pencil with a hard lead, you will need to outline all the elements of the drawing to get a more distinct picture.
- If desired, you can also use various shading techniques to highlight areas of light and shadow.
- The darkest areas will be the bends of the arms and legs, as well as the inner surface of Dunno's trousers. You will also need to darken the wide, turned-up collar of the suit, and work on the areas around the belt.
For shading, you can use not only short lines, but also dots of different sizes. Pencil shading can convey the texture and volume of various elements of the drawing.
With colored pencils
Dunno (a drawing for children can be colored) is a bright and memorable character from cartoons. You can color the character with colored or watercolor pencils.
Pros and cons of pencils:
Watercolor pencils | Colored pencils | ||
Pros | Cons | Pros | Cons |
Convenient to use: fits easily in your hand and requires no effort during use. | To work with watercolor pencils, you will need special thick paper, as well as brushes of various sizes. | Simple and easy to use. | A bright design can only be created by layering shades on top of each other. This process requires more time and effort. |
Creates bright lines and elements. | Not suitable for younger children, as it requires perseverance and increased attention during the process of blurring the pencils. | Availability: Pencils can be purchased at any store in a variety of colors. | Having a minimal set of colors, it is impossible to create a larger number of shades on your own. To get a wide range of colors, you need to buy a large set of pencils. |
There are many ways to use watercolor pencils: use them as pressed paint and paint with a brush, or use them as a classic pencil. | High cost. A set of watercolor pencils costs several times more than regular colored ones.
Also, when using such pencils, you will need to constantly sharpen the lead, which results in the material being wasted. | Does not require preparation or use of special materials. |
Based on these advantages and disadvantages of the material, you can choose the tool that will be more comfortable for the child to work with.
Pencils, paper and supplies
Using these materials, you can create a beautiful and rich design:
- a set of pencils (colored or watercolor - your choice);
- sheet of paper;
- eraser;
- sharpener.
If you use watercolour pencils, you will need to prepare additional materials. These include special (thick) paper, brushes and a glass for water.
Step by step process of execution
The process of performing the work:
- On a clean sheet of paper, draw a flattened oval. Visually measure a horizontal line passing slightly below the middle of the oval, add 2 elements. They will serve as the character's ears in the future.
- Just below the top line of the head, draw small eyebrows, and then draw a vertical arched line.
- On the sides of this line, stepping back a small distance, draw 2 small ovals, and inside, closer to the right border, 2 more.
- At ear level, draw a small arched line – Dunno’s nose.
- In the lower third of the head, add a mouth and outline the character's chin. His face conveys surprise.
- Using the lower part of the head as a main point, draw arched lines. Using arched lines, form the character's hairstyle - as shown in the picture. Instead of the upper even angle, draw broken lines that will show the texture of the hair.
- At the bottom of the hair, mark the division into strands. This will require slightly curved short lines.
- Draw an unfinished oval around the hairstyle.
- On the top, add the protruding top of the hat and a tassel – as shown in the picture.
- Using curved lines and rectangles, draw the general outline of the character's shirt.
- At the neck level, mark the boundaries of the shirt and draw the collar.
- Draw palms from the sleeves. At the same time, immediately mark the fingers and dimples.

- Add a costume element to the bottom of the drawing, as shown in the picture.
- Add a tie. It looks like an inverted trapezoid connected to an elongated diamond.
- Draw the boots at the bottom. As you can see, the toes of the shoes are comically elongated.
The resulting character can be colored. When coloring, you need to focus on the hero presented in the book by Nikolai Nosov "The Adventures of Dunno and His Friends."
Stages:
- Using a yellow pencil, color the tassel area on the hat, hair and pants of the character.
- You will need a blue pencil to fill in Dunno's hat.
- Barely touching the paper, shade the character's shirt with a red pencil. Go over it with the same light movements with a yellow pencil. If the set has an orange shade, you can fill this area with it.
- Use a black pencil to highlight the character's tie and shoes. Also go over the eyes (leaving a spot of glare) and other facial features.
- Using a pink or black pencil, lightly pressing to obtain a minimal shade, paint the face, neck and palms. If you have a set for drawing skin, you can use it.
- Paint the cheeks with circular movements, using the same pink (with active movements) or red.
You can use a black marker to outline the outline of the drawing and other elements to achieve clarity.

- Add trapezoidal elements to the top of the hat and outline the border with a voluminous semi-oval.
- On the crown of the hat, show the texture of the element and add creases and folds.
- Make the hair outlines more "ragged". The ends of the strands look more like triangles that lean in different directions.
