The Indian elephant is considered a sacred animal in India. Its dimensions are only slightly smaller than the size African elephant. The drawing of the Indian elephant is often accompanied by an unusual ornament, which is an integral part of the culture of the Indian people.
With complex ornamentation
Indian elephant ornament - a drawing that reflects the ancient culture of India. It is quite difficult to create such drawings, but there are a huge number of variations of such drawings, among which you can choose simple options for children.
Indian elephant is a drawing that requires increased concentration. This drawing develops imagination and is suitable for children of middle school age. The process of creating a drawing consists of 2 stages. First, the elephant itself is drawn, and then patterns and ornaments are applied to the drawing.
Elephant
To draw an elephant, you need to follow these steps:
- Draw the elephant's body in the center of the sheet in the form of a large oval, located in a horizontal position.
- To the right of the body, draw a head in the form of an oval, the size of which should be 3 times smaller than the size of the body.
- Connect the head with the body at the top and bottom with 2 horizontal lines.
- Erase the intersecting parts of the head and body ovals with an eraser.
- Starting from the lower left part of the body, depict the back leg as a tube tapering downwards, located at an angle of 45° to the vertical of the drawing. Then depict the foot as a trapezoid with rounded corners.
- Starting from the right upper edge of the back leg, draw the second back leg as a tube located at an angle of 60° relative to the other back leg. Then draw the foot as a trapezoid with rounded corners.
Indian elephant. Drawing - Starting from the lower right part of the body, depict the front leg in the form of a vertically located tube, at the bottom of which depict the foot in the form of a trapezoid with rounded corners.
- To the right of the front leg, draw the second front leg as a tube bent at a 90° angle, with a foot at the bottom in the form of a trapezoid with rounded corners. Part of the second front leg should be covered by the first front leg.
- In the center of the head, draw an eye in the form of a horizontally located oval with pointed ends.
- Starting from the lower right part of the head, draw the trunk in the form of a gradually tapering curved tube, outwardly resembling an inverted letter “L”.
- Fix the pencil at the starting point of the trunk and draw the tusk in the form of a triangle extended to the right. Then draw the second tusk parallel to the first.
- Starting from the middle of the left part of the body contour, draw the tail in the form of a curved, thin tube tapering downwards, directed downwards.
Complex ornament
Indian elephant - a drawing, the ornament of which can be invented by the child himself.
The process of drawing an ornament consists of the following steps:
- In the upper part of the body, draw a small circle, around which draw another circle of a slightly larger size.
- Draw small semicircles around the outer circle. Then connect their centers with semicircles of slightly larger size.
- Outline the outer semicircles with lines, inside which draw notches. Then around this outline make another outline of the same shape, but larger.
- Draw triangular petals between the semicircles of the outline.
- Starting from the left extreme part of the body, draw 3 semicircles nested inside each other.
- Draw small semicircles around the outer semicircle, and then draw a jagged semicircle around them.
- Draw several semi-ovals around the jagged semicircle, and inside them draw semi-ovals that are half the size.
- Fix the pencil in the upper left part of the elephant's hind leg and draw 3 parallel arcs towards the middle of the upper ornamental drawing. Then between the 1st and 2nd arcs, along their contour, draw small circles.
- In the lower part of the body, draw 3 circles nested inside each other. The outermost circle should be slightly cut off at the bottom.
- Between the contours of the 2nd and 3rd circles, depict petals in the form of small semicircles, inside which depict semi-ovals 3 times smaller in size.
- Around the 3rd circle, along its contour, depict small feathers in the form of ovals, pointed at the bottom. Then inside them depict the same semi-ovals, but 2 times smaller.
- In the neck area, draw 4 circles nested inside each other. Between the 2nd and 3rd circles, along their contour, draw small circles, and around the 4th circle, along its contour, draw small semicircles.
- To the right below the 4th circle, draw a large petal directed at an angle of 45° to the vertical of the drawing. Inside the petal, draw another petal, but 2 times smaller. Between the contours of these petals, draw small triangles.
- On the back of the head, depict 2 semicircles nested one inside the other. Around the outer semicircle, depict petals in the form of pointed semi-ovals.
- Draw a large curved petal under the eye, with its sharp end pointing upwards. Then draw another similar petal inside it, but half the size.
- Draw a border around the outer petal, along the contour of which draw small triangles. Then draw small semicircles around the inner petal, along its contour.
- From the back of the head to the beginning of the trunk, depict small flowers in the form of circles and wavy outlines around them.
- From the beginning of the trunk, draw 5 arched lines perpendicular to the outline of the trunk. Then after them, draw several circles superimposed on each other.
- Draw 4 horizontal segments at the tip of the trunk.
- Inside the tusks, draw 4 segments perpendicular to its outline.
- Along the lower part of the body and neck, draw an arc, along the contour of which draw small circles. Then under the arc, draw feathers in the form of elongated ovals, and between them, draw small semicircles.
- Fill the inside of the legs with semicircles in the form of scales.
- On the right side of each leg, draw a flower in the form of 2 semicircles nested inside each other and 3 petals located around these circles.
- Inside the tail, draw curved segments perpendicular to the contour of the tail.
- Color the ornament as you wish, but make sure that the repeating elements in the patterns are colored the same color.

- Connect the head with the body at the top and bottom with two horizontal lines.
- Erase the intersecting parts of the head and body ovals with an eraser.
- Starting from the lower left part of the body, draw the back leg as a vertical tube. Then, to the left of this leg, draw the other back leg as a tube slightly curved to the left.
- Draw the 2 front legs in the same way.
- At the bottom of each foot, draw 3 nails in the form of semicircles.
- In the center of the head, draw a large eye in the form of an oval with pointed ends, located at an angle of 45° to the vertical of the drawing.
- On the left side of the eye, draw a round iris and pupil.
- Starting from the lower right part of the head, depict the trunk as a curved tube directed downwards and twisting towards the elephant’s front legs.
- To the left of the eye, draw a large ear in the form of an isosceles triangle, the base of which should be directed to the right. Then you need to round the right corner of the triangle, and draw a wavy line along its base. After that, you need to erase the base of the triangle.
- Draw a tusk under the eye in the form of an elongated semi-oval, pointed on the right.
- Draw a square rug on the elephant's body.
Simple ornament
Indian elephant is a design that can contain both simple and complex patterns.
The process of drawing an ornament consists of the following steps:
- Draw another square inside the rug. Then draw a wavy line between the squares, along their outline, and draw small circles in the spaces between the waves of this line.
- Draw a diamond-shaped grid inside the second square of the rug.
- Along the bottom line of the rug, draw fringe in the form of small circles and triangles below them.
- At the bottom of each leg, draw 3 stripes perpendicular to their outline. Then, in the central stripe, along its outline, draw small circles. After that, at the bottom of the stripes, draw fringe in the form of small circles and triangles under them.
- At the top of the head, draw 5 semicircles nested inside each other.
- Draw vertical stripes inside the upper semicircle.
- Between the 2nd and 3rd semicircles, along their contour, draw small circles.
- Under the 5th semicircle, depict fringe in the form of small circles and triangles under them.
- Draw a line around the eye contour and draw small semicircles along its contour.
- To the right of the eye, draw half a triangle, the base of which should be directed upwards. Then, inside the triangle, draw a curved semi-oval, with a pointed end at the bottom, along the contour of which draw small semi-circles. After that, inside the semi-oval, draw 2 circles nested inside each other, and along the contour of the outer circle, draw small circles.
- At the base and at the end of the tusk, draw 2 vertical segments, and along the tusk itself, draw a curved line on which draw petals in the form of small ovals with pointed ends.
- Along the right side of the trunk, draw a wavy line. Then inside, draw several semicircles nested inside each other, around which draw small circles.
- On the right side of the ear, draw a flower in the shape of a water lily with 3 petals directed to the left. Then in the middle of the ear, draw 2 small flowers with petals in the shape of a circle.
- On the left side of the ear, draw an outline of its contour.
- In the upper part of the tail, depict petals and flowers, and in the lower part, depict a wavy vertical line, between the waves of which depict small circles.
- Color the elephant and the ornament as you wish, but make sure that the repeating elements in the patterns are colored the same color.
Drawing an Indian elephant is a fascinating activity, because creating a variety of patterns gives great freedom to the imagination, and the drawing can always be colored differently - in different styles or simply according to the mood.
