A drawing sheet is used as a draft. The necessary skills can be practiced by manually drawing a simple flower with several oval petals. After creating the contours, the drawing is filled with the desired shades. A mushroom with a red cap is considered easy to draw.

- Place the printer sheet with the attached T-shirt on a transparent surface. Glass or plastic will do.
- Place a switched-on table lamp or hand torch underneath. The contours of the image will be clearly visible in the light of the device.

Painting T-shirts in this way is an extremely simple creative procedure. The master class requires ironing the fabric through damp gauze after it has completely dried.
This measure promotes the sintering of the dye composition, which ensures the durability and resistance of the applique to external influences. Below are other applied and recommended techniques for decorating textile products.
Simple option
The proposed method of aesthetic decoration of clothing items does not require special skills. A simple option involves decorating a single-color T-shirt using a cardboard sheet, a soft paintbrush, and a stencil.
Additionally, you will need acrylic paints in tubes or an aerosol can. The outline of the drawing is created with a drawing marker or felt-tip pen.
Sequence of actions:
- Wash the T-shirt. The procedure is especially relevant for new textiles. When making wardrobe items, a special impregnation is used that prevents the coloring composition from being evenly distributed. The substance is washed off during washing.
- Iron thoroughly. The work surface should not have any creases, unevenness or other deformations that would prevent the acrylic paint from being applied evenly.
- Insert a piece of cardboard inside the product. At this stage, you need to stretch the T-shirt, securing it with paper clips or staples. The cardboard sheet prevents the dye from leaking onto the back when decorating the front surface. It is recommended to additionally cover the base with culinary foil.
- Apply the selected image. Those with artistic talent can do the procedure manually using a marker and pre-prepared paints. If you don't know how to draw, you should use a stencil.
After decoration, the decorated T-shirt must be dried for 24 hours without removing it from the cardboard base.
If it is necessary to apply an applique to the back surface of a textile product, repeat the specified sequence of actions after the formed pattern has completely dried.
Stencil painting
Using a stencil allows you to create an artistic composition of any complexity without possessing a drawing talent and great efforts. The technique is easy to master and practical, ergonomic. Stencil painting brings a satisfactory artistic result.
The best textile item to use for this technique is a natural cotton garment. The image is created with acrylic paints using a soft roller.
To work you will need:
- a palette or its substitute for diluting the coloring composition, mixing shades;
- cosmetic gloves made of thin transparent polymer;
- office scissors or office knife;
- wide tape;
- iron.
The master class recommends painting T-shirts using the stencil method only on a carefully leveled surface of the textile product. This approach allows you to maintain the specified proportions and prevent distortion of the outlines of the drawing.
The technique differs from the previous one only in the use of a paint roller. A T-shirt with a hard base inside is placed on a flat surface - a coffee table, desk or dining table.
For the first experiment, it is advisable to use a store-bought accessory or a printed printout as a stencil. If you have the appropriate experience, you can cut out the template yourself.
It is important that there are no unevenness or nicks on the edges of the image, otherwise it will not be possible to achieve high quality. For convenience, the stencil is glued to the fabric surface being decorated with tape.

A piece of clothing can be decorated with an unusual creative image of cosmic, fantasy or any other content. For work, acrylic paints are required, which are highly resistant to fading.
Creative manipulation is performed with soft paint brushes. Additionally, bleach is used in a bottle with a spray device. The new T-shirt, as in the previous cases, must be washed, dried and ironed.
Abstract prints are best created on bright or light colored fabric. On a dark background, such images look less impressive and effective. It is recommended to cover the work area with plastic film or old newspapers.
Acrylic paints are very difficult to wash off.
The order of execution of the creative procedure:
- Before starting the dyeing process, mix the bleach with clean water.
- Pour the liquid into a container with a spray bottle.
- On a palette, dilute acrylic paints of your preferred shades.
- Stretch the T-shirt onto a rigid base using the method described above.
- Spray the work surface with bleach diluted in water.
- Wait until the fabric dries and the color range lightens.
- Dip the brush into paint of different shades and apply to the surface with shaking movements.
It is better to add small details with a toothbrush. To create an abstract print, you can use the appropriate template. To form a chaotic color scheme, use the knot technique.
To implement this method of dyeing, a rigid base is not used. The wet piece of clothing after spraying acrylic paints is twisted into a knot, allowing the coloring substances to randomly distribute over the surface and soak the layers of fabric.
Batik technique
Painting T-shirts (the master class involves using the traditional Indonesian method of hand-dyeing textile materials) in this way is quite difficult to implement at home.
The technique requires specific accessories. Such materials are not always available even in specialized stores.
The procedure for those who want to try their hand at decorating clothing items using the Indonesian method:
- Stretch the decorated item onto a wooden frame. Such accessories are not mass-produced. The frame will have to be made independently from thin wooden planks.
- Wet the tightly stretched and firmly fixed work surface with water. A spray bottle from a household cleaning product for carpets, glass cleaners, etc. is best suited for this purpose.
- Distribute the moisture evenly with a wide paintbrush. Use the device with sweeping gestures. This action allows the internal layers of the product to be qualitatively saturated with moisture.
- Apply the desired color to a wet T-shirt. Batik does not require preliminary creation of a sketch, draft or stencil. The technique is available for practical implementation only to those with artistic talent.
- After completing the creative work, sprinkle the fabric with finely ground table salt. The sodium substance ensures the fixation of the dye composition, changing the chemical properties in the direction of increasing resistance to external influences and fading.
Carefully remove the T-shirt from the wooden frame and steam it for 1.5-2 hours in boiling water. At the end of the procedure, wash the textile in warm water with the addition of a cotton cleaning agent. Iron the fabric while wet.
Useful tips
Painting your own wardrobe items is a fascinating activity that does not require outstanding artistic abilities. The only exception is the manual technique of exclusive design.
If you need to get a creative image without clear outlines, use the knot method of coloring. Regardless of the chosen method of coloring, the new product must be washed.
Otherwise, it will not be possible to achieve an expressive result. To create the most elastic and durable applique, decoupage glue is added to acrylic paints. The substance accelerates drying, eliminates air bubbles, and smoothes out small folds.
The glue is mixed with acrylic paints in a 2:1 ratio. At this concentration, the composition will not fade over time and peel off at the bends during intensive use of the T-shirt.
Chemically aggressive bleaches with chlorine cannot be used for washing decorated items of clothing. Such agents gradually destroy the structure of the acrylic dye.
The melted wax helps maintain the clarity of the outlines of the design when painting a T-shirt, preventing the dye from spreading beyond the established boundaries. The master class requires applying light tones first, then dark ones.
