What is cashmere

The name "cashmere" corresponds to the toponym of the province of Kashmir, located in the Himalayas. Since the 12th century, the finest down shawls have been made in this region. True cashmere is made from the wool of Tibetan goats living high in the mountains of China, India and Pakistan.

When spring comes, the thick undercoat that keeps the animals warm during the cold season is useless. It is combed out manually using special combs. Goat down is very light, its fibers are 3 times thinner than human hair.

On average, about 100 g of raw material is collected from one goat, and to make 1 downy shawl, you need to have 500 g of yarn. Subsequent processing of threads, their down spinning and dyeing are carried out in small parts without the use of machines. It will take a lot of time to obtain the processed material.

The value of the undercoat is determined by its shade and thickness. If the down threads are thinner than 15 microns, they are called pashmina. They are used to make the well-known shawls and first-class fabrics. Rough threads are called semi-pashmina, and they are suitable for the production of yarn and fabric.

For sizes 38/43/46 you need 500/550/600 g of yarn (40% polyamide, 30% viscose and 15% cashmere and silk, 50 g – 75 m), straight knitting rods No. 8 and 12, as well as ring devices No. 8. The elastic is made from 1 front loop and 1 back loop. The openwork motif is made from an even number of loops.

Procedure:

For the back, cast on 62/68/74 sts on thin rods in two threads, and knit the 1st horizontal row. Continue working in one thread on knitting needles No. 8 with an openwork pattern.

To form an elongated fabric in the form of a pipe, from 2 edges 8 times in each 10 / 7x in 12 rows / 6x in 14 rows, reduce by 1 st. 36/42/48 sts will remain.

Creation process:

The back part is made from 131/147/163 sts. The initial 1.5 cm are made with an elastic band.
Next, switch to thicker knitting needles and knit the main motif.
Having knitted 44.5 cm from the strip, close all the snares at the same time. The central 71/73/75 sts act as a straight neckline, and the outer 30/37/44 form the shoulder lines.
The front part is knitted in the same way as the back, only the neck should be rounded. Having made 41/44/47 cm from the strip, close the central 35/37/39 sts, after which both halves are done separately.
To round the neckline, decrease from the inside in every 2nd row 1x6 sts, 1x4 sts, 2x3 sts and 1x2 sts. There will be 30/37/44 shoulder links left, they are closed at the height of the back. Finish the other part symmetrically.

The sleeve is made from 67/83/83 sts and the first 1.5 cm are knitted with an elastic band.
Having knitted 19 cm from the strip, add 1x1p. on both sides, then 2 times in each 8 rows and 13 times through 6 rows. Include all resulting loops in the ornament. Finish the work at a height of 51 cm.
Next, sew the horizontal lines.
Cast on 142/142/150 sts along the neck edge using circular needles and knit the edging in a circle with a rib pattern. After completing 1.5 cm, close the loops.
Connect the side seams, sew in and join the sleeves.

With cotton

For size 40, you will need 400 g of yarn (85% cotton, 15% cashmere, 50 g - 140 m), knitting needles No. 3.5, and a hook No. 3. The openwork motif of diamonds is made according to the given pattern. Decorative decrease technique:

Having knitted 10 cm according to the openwork pattern, shape the armhole: decrease 3 sts on 2 sides, then 2 sts in the next 2nd tier. You will get 93 sts.
After 24 cm from the beginning of the diamond yoke, close the central 51 sts for the neck opening, then knit the first left half.

Having completed another 2 cm, close the remainder of the shoulder line - 21 sts.
Design the right part symmetrically.
The front panel is woven in the same way as the back. To create a deep neckline, at a height of 19 cm from the beginning of the openwork segment, close the central 19 sts.
For the sleeve, cast on 66 sts and knit 2 cm in garter stitch for the placket. Continue working with face jersey.
To form the bevels, reduce 1 st from each edge in the 18th row, then make a decorative decrease twice more - after 18 rows, 1 st each. 60 sts will remain.
Next, knit 24 cm from the strip with a straight cloth and add 1 st on both sides, then remove 1 st twice in each 10th row. Again, you will get 66 sts.
Having made 36 cm, from the cuff on both edges close 3 sts for the armhole, then decrease in each 2 rows 3x2 sts and 21x1 sts. Close the remaining 6 sts at the same time.
Finally, make side and shoulder seams, sew in sleeves. Edge the neck with 1 line of sc, made from left to right.

With braids

A cashmere sweater for women with a relief braid pattern is suitable for special occasions or everyday wear.

The product is presented in sizes 36/40/44. You can use pure cashmere yarn or a combination of cashmere with viscose and silk. If the skein is 50g - 75 m, then you need 700/750/800 g, as well as knitting needles No. 8 and 9.

The elastic (1 front st, 1 back st) is knitted with thinner knitting needles, for the rest of the patterns use tool #8. The motif with “braids” on st 57 “A” is made according to pattern 1, which indicates the front rows and odd ring levels. The remaining tiers are knitted according to the pattern.

The pattern with "braids" on 29 sts. "B" is knitted in the following sequence: 1 time, design from 1 to 10 axes, then constantly perform 3-10 rows. For a 10x10 sample, knitted with face jersey, you need to dial 14 sts and knit 22 rows.

Manufacturing procedure:

For the back panel, cast on 62/66/70 sts and knit 6 cm with a rib pattern, in the last purl tier, evenly cast on 11/13/15 sts.
Next, on each side, make 1 edge and 7/10/13 sts using the front method, and the central 57 sts are designed according to pattern “A”.
Having knitted 31.5 cm, close 1x2 sts on both sides for armholes, then 5x1 sts in each 2nd row. 59/65/71 sts will remain.
At a height of 53/55/57.5 cm from the bottom on each side for the shoulders, reduce 1x10/13/15 sts. Leave the central 39/39/41 sts for the neckline.
Knit the front half in the same way as the back.
The sleeve starts to be knitted with an elastic band (6 cm), in the last line add 7 sts.
Next, work according to pattern “B”, while knitting 1 edge and 5 front loops on each side.
To achieve a slope, the part is symmetrically expanded as follows:

To form armholes at a height of 42/42/40 cm from the bottom edge, close 1x2 sts on both sides, then every 2 tiers 1x2 sts, 11x1 sts, 1x2 sts.
Assembly involves sewing together the shoulder lines.
The stand-up collar is made as follows: transfer the left snares of the front and back panels for the neck onto 4 stocking rods, and continue the motif with ring rows. Having knitted 17 cm, finish the work.

The back is made from 128/146 sts. First, 2 purl rows and 1 front row are made for the strip.
Next, continue knitting with the main motif, distributing the links as follows: 7/8 rapports + 2 edge ones.
Having knitted 40 cm from the bottom edge, close 9 sts from both edges to form the armhole. 110/128 sts will remain.
At a height of 18/20 cm from the beginning of the armhole, close the central 52 sts for the neck opening, then finish the left and right parts.
After 2 cm from the neckline, complete the remainder of the shoulder line (29/38 sts) with one row.
Make the second segment using the same pattern.
The front panel is woven in the same way as the back, but for a deep neckline, the central 52 sts should be closed at a height of 16/18 cm from the edge of the armholes, then first complete the left half.
After 4 cm from the base of the neck, the remainder of the links (29/38 sts) are closed simultaneously.

The second part is completed symmetrically.
The sleeve is formed from 65/71 sts. The placket is knitted from 2 purl and 1 knit tier.
Next, the craft is made with the main motif. The loops are distributed as follows: 3 rapports, then 9/15 sts after the arrow on the right + 2 edges.
Having knitted 10 rows from the edge, add 1 st on both sides at first, then add 1 st in each 10/12 rows 7/10 more times. The result will be 81/93 sts. Include the new links in the main pattern.
Finish the row 45 cm from the bottom.
Sew shoulder seams.
Along the entire length of the neck, string 122 sts on circular needles and knit for the piping in the round: 1 row of knit stitches and 2 rows of purl stitches, close the horizontal stitch at the end.

With throat

A cashmere sweater for women with a high collar is easy to knit. For size 40/44/50 you will need pure cashmere yarn or a mixture of sheep wool and cashmere in the amount of 850-950 g (in 50 g - 110 m), as well as straight and ring knitting needles No. 5.

For the structural pattern you will need a number of loops multiple of 16 + 2 sts (edge). Work according to the given pattern from rows 1 to 20. Purl levels are knitted according to the pattern.

The ribbed transverse motif is made as follows: 1st and 4th tiers are knitted with purl stitches, and 2nd and 3rd rows are knitted with knit stitches. Repeat from 1st to 4th rows. Knitting in a circle consists of alternating 2 purl stitches, then 2 knit stitches.

Registration procedure:

Thread 130/146/162 sts onto knitting needles and knit 1 axis using the purl method (this horizontal line is not taken into account further).
Next, knitting is done with a structural pattern. Having knitted 35 cm from the bottom, for armholes on both sides, close 1 row of 10/13/16 sts. 110/120/130 sts will remain on the working tool.
At a height of 54/56/58 cm from the cast-on line, temporarily leave the central 44/46/48 sts and finish both parts separately.
To make the bevel on the inside, on every 2nd level, 5 rows of 2 links are woven together using the purl method.
Close shoulder loops (28/32/36) simultaneously after 59/61/63 cm from the start of work.
The front part is knitted in the same way as the back, only the neckline should be made deep. To do this, at a height of 47.5/49.5/51.5 cm from the bottom edge, leave the middle 30/32/34 cells and close both segments separately.
For the bevel on the inner edge, knit together in every 2nd row using the purl method 2 sts 12 times.
For the sleeves, string 58/62/66 on the needles and knit the 1st tier with knit stitches, then continue working with a ribbed motif.

Having knitted 8 levels, loops are added according to the following pattern:

At the end, sew and stitch the sleeves, then finish the side seams.

V-neck

A cashmere sweater for women is worn in everyday wardrobe. For such an occasion, a voluminous trapezoidal version with a decorative motif is suitable. For sizes 36-40 and 42-46, you will need 500 g of gray cashmere yarn (50 g = 175 m), ring knitting needles No. 4.5, straight rods No. 3.5 and 4.5, and a 3.5 hook. The elastic is knitted from 2 purl and 2 knit loops.
