To create a drawing of a crown, you do not need to have special skills in fine arts. Therefore, this idea is suitable for children of all ages. The crown can be drawn very simply or you can try to create a more realistic image. Before you start drawing, it is recommended to learn more about the shapes of crowns and their distinctive features.

Famous crowns and their varieties

Today, this symbol of power is no less interesting to people than it was centuries ago. An interesting fact is that in Europe and Russia, some crowns ended up being even more famous than the royals who wore them. For example, in England, some of the most famous regalia are the Blanche and Palatine crowns.

These are amazing works of jewellery art that have been preserved in excellent condition since 1370. Today, these regalia are kept in the famous Munich Treasury.

Also of interest is the crown of Charlemagne. Today it is no longer on public display and is kept in Vienna. The reason for such restrictions is that it was created in the 10th century. It was worn by many emperors of the Roman Empire. Also, this crown was worn by almost every German monarch during the early Middle Ages.

It is impossible to ignore the Crown of St. Edward (on the left in the photo below), which is a real treasure of Great Britain. It is noteworthy that it is still used at coronations. The relic was created in 1661 and was worn by Charles II. The amazing relic can be seen in the Tower of London. It is noteworthy that the weight of the crown is more than 2 kg.

In the photo below, in the center, you can see the Great Crown of the Russian Empire. It was created especially for Catherine II. It has been perfectly preserved since 1762. Today, it is located in the Moscow Kremlin. It is strictly forbidden to take the crown out, even for exhibitions.

The crown, the drawing for children of which can be based on real decorations of monarchs, comes in a variety of shapes. It is worth considering the main classification of crowns.

Above are more variations of famous crowns. The easiest to depict is the antique version, as it is a fairly simple shape with classic teeth that you can see in cartoons. If you want to make it more challenging, you can try depicting the Crown of the Chief Herald. It has many small elements.

It's worth starting with simpler images.

What you need for drawing

It is most convenient to draw a crown with a simple pencil. It is better to give preference to pencils of medium hardness. They do not smudge as much, and it is quite easy to draw with them.

Additionally, you will need an eraser. It should also be soft enough. It is better to choose an eraser specifically for a simple pencil, since it will not tear the paper. And you will need a notebook or thick A4 sheets.

How to quickly draw a count's crown

This is a medium complexity variant. On the one hand, the regalia has a rather simple form, but it is complemented by monograms and other elements that make the design more serious.

The step by step drawing looks like this:

It is worth starting from the bottom. To do this, you need to draw a straight line at the bottom of the sheet.
At the top and bottom of the line, you need to draw additional curved lines and delete the central parts. You should get a pointed oval.
Now you need to outline the resulting oval with a small indent. You will get a neat rim, with the help of which the crown should be held on the monarch's head.
The next step is to create the shape of the crown. Usually, this type of decoration is much wider at the top. To do this, draw 2 slightly inclined lines that come from the corners of the rim. The height of the lines depends on the type of crown. Usually, they are slightly shorter than the width of the rim. This way, the decoration will look more proportional.
Most crowns have decorations that extend above the band, so it's worth drawing an extra line to indicate where the jewelry will go.

Now you need to draw another line next to it and connect it to the first one. In this case, the rounded edge of the resulting elongated oval should extend slightly beyond the crown itself.
The next step is adding the shaped elements. The easiest way is to give them the shape shown in the picture below. To make them symmetrical, it is recommended to first draw the central lines. Then it will be much easier to draw such monograms.
When the top and bottom parts are ready, you can add slightly smaller decorations and finish drawing stones. It is better to alternate round and more elongated decorations.

The crown is ready. All that's left is to color it using colored pencils, markers, paints, crayons, and any other materials. Since the drawing is created with a simple pencil, you can easily remove curved lines and correct flaws.

The crown (the drawing for children can be made more complicated if they have done well with the previous version) of this type is considered one of the most famous. Therefore, you can ask the child to draw it and at the same time tell a short story about this regalia.

The step-by-step instructions are as follows:

First, you also need to draw a straight line, and then draw another one above it, slightly curved. This will be the base of the crown, that is, the part that fixes it on the head of Monomakh.
The next step is to connect the horizontal lines. In doing so, you need to create a figure that is slightly concave on the sides.
Now you need to add additional lines with a small indent to the horizontal parts. One line will also be straight, and the other one will be curved.
The next step is to draw the top of the crown. It somewhat resembles a low chef's hat, but is more rounded. To draw it, you need to draw curved lines like question marks along the edges of the crown. Between them, it is enough to draw another curved horizontal line.
Now, above the top of the crown base, you need to draw a jagged edge. To do this, you first need to draw short vertical lines along the contour, draw curved U-shaped sections between them, and then delete the extra guides.

Now you can draw another series of short curved lines. They will be located just below the torn edge. On the sides you can depict the so-called fleur-de-lis, these are simple monograms. In the center of the crown you can also draw a small crossbar.
The next step is to draw another monogram above the central crossbar. To make it symmetrical, draw a vertical guide line in the center. The result should be an expanded fleur-de-lis.
Now from the fleur-de-lis located on the sides, it is necessary to create 2 more pairs of curved lines that pass over the top of the crown. They should not end in the very center of the headdress, but at a small distance.
Now from the central fleur-de-lis you need to draw 2 vertical and slightly diverging lines, which are connected by a horizontal straight line. Another one should run parallel to it.

After this, you can connect these 2 lines with short semicircles. From the resulting "platform", draw 2 more short lines that narrow. They also need to be connected with a straight horizontal segment.

Above the central part you need to draw a circle and another one (only slightly smaller) inside it. On the sides you should draw wavy lines that look like a bow.
Draw a few more lines inside the “bow wings” that repeat the shape of the main figure.
Now you can go back to the bottom of the crown and add curved lines and small circles.
The base of the crown looks quite simple. But you can add decorations to it. You should start with the central stone, which should be depicted as a rhombus. Inside it, draw another one, but smaller.

After this, depict pairs of small round stones at a small distance from each other.
The space between them can be filled with rectangular diamonds.
Also draw additional contours inside the rectangles.
The crown decoration does not end there. You can complement it with unique pearl beads that rise to the top of the crown. To do this, it is most convenient to first draw a slightly curved line, and then draw circles of the same size along it. After that, it remains to delete the guide lines.
The same must be repeated on the other side.

From the triangle shape between the fleur-de-lis, draw a series of linked circles resembling beads to the top of the crown.

Now the crown looks complete. It should be painted in traditional colors, typical for regalia of this type. The central part (hat) is usually made of red velvet. The frame of the crown is golden. The stones on the rim can be of different colors, and pearl decorations can be made slightly pinkish.

The crown can be a simpler drawing for children. If you want to get a lighter or even slightly cartoonish image, then you should choose the headdresses of monarchs, which have circles at the ends. You can also use a slightly different drawing technique, which is often used by experienced artists.

The principle of such drawing is as follows:

First, create a sketch, that is, schematically depict the main elements of the crown. To do this, draw an oval, draw a vertical line through it (in the center) and a horizontal semicircle also inside the oval. This will help determine the height and width of the future crown.

After that, outline the contours of the lower part of the crown. It will be five-pointed. The central top should be slightly larger and higher. This will make the image more interesting.
Draw circles on the crowns, the central one should be the largest. After that, draw elements between them that are located on the other side of the headdress. They will be located slightly lower to create the effect of distant objects.

Also at this stage, it is necessary to draw 3 horizontal semi-oval lines. They are necessary to mark the place for precious stones.

Place the largest stone in the middle. It can be made in the form of a diamond. Below will be smaller round stones.

All that's left is to color the resulting crown. It looks more cartoonish, so you can use rich and bright colors. A variety of materials are also suitable for coloring. If you make a dark yellow outline, you can highlight the elements more favorably, especially those located at the back.

Another option for quickly drawing a crown

The crown (you can come up with a drawing for children yourself) can be depicted in different ways. It is most convenient to take simple geometric figures as a basis.

For example, you can depict a crown as follows:

First, it is enough to draw an oval and a vertical line extending upward from the center of such a base.
Now draw the base (a red velvet cap). It should be more voluminous on the sides, and converge in the center on the oval of the base. On the sides, it is worth making the crown narrower and giving it an interesting shape.
The next step is to finish the top part. To do this, draw additional curved lines on the sides, thus separating the main part from the gold elements that rise above it. Draw the main decoration in the center. A circle will do for this, and an oval with small circles located around it just below.
Now you can detail the crown. Above the central circle, you should add a large cross, and along the protruding parts, you should draw additional circles. You can also work on the very bottom part, adding small gemstones of different shapes.

The result is a very elegant monomakh headdress. All that remains is to paint the crown to your taste. It is also worth using classic colors, that is, red, gold, and colors that emeralds and pearls can be painted in.

The crown (a drawing for younger children is shown below) does not necessarily have to be detailed. It is not at all necessary to draw it as similar as possible to the regalia that are stored in the treasuries. There are simpler options that will appeal to the child.

To draw a simple crown:

First, prepare the base. For such a base, you will need to draw a horizontal straight line and connect it with straight segments in the middle. From the corners, draw 2 slightly diverging lines, and to the center, 1 straight and the longest. These will be the guides for the rays of the crown.

The convenience of this technique is that you can simplify the drawing process using a ruler, since at this stage it is enough to get by with the simplest geometric figures.

Now you need to connect the lines with a simple zigzag, for which you can also use a ruler. The main thing is to first roughly mark the width of the beams, as they should be almost the same.
The same line must be drawn under the zigzag line.
The next step is to add precious stones, which can be found on almost all jewelry of this type. The largest stone should be placed in the center. To do this, draw a rhombus, and another one inside it. Straight lines can be drawn from the corners of the smaller rhombus. Then the stone will be more voluminous.

If you paint the central part with a lighter shade later, it will look spectacular. You need to add smaller stones on the sides.

It remains to connect the tops of the stones and the corners of the zigzags. You don't have to do this, but such a division will make it easier to color and create simple shadows.

How to draw a princess crown

Not all crowns are so serious. If you recall the illustrations of fairy tales or how royals are depicted in cartoons, it becomes obvious that the form of such regalia can be simpler. If you completely deviate from the accepted historical standards of crowns, you can create a more cheerful image that will especially appeal to girls, since these are the crowns that princesses wear.

The drawing procedure is as follows:

First, make a sketch, that is, just mark the contours of the crown with a pencil. The upper part will have a slightly elongated angle. The lower line should be slightly rounded. With such a sketch, it is not at all necessary to draw perfectly straight lines.
Now draw a slightly elongated circle at the very angle, add 2 more at the edges and one between them. These will be the places of the tops of the rays of the crown. Therefore, the distance between them should be approximately the same.
The next step is to shape the crown. To do this, draw U-shaped lines from the circles.
After this, you need to carefully remove the remains of the top line using an eraser. It is also worth more clearly outlining the resulting crown. For this, you can use a thicker pencil or a thin black marker.

It remains to draw the decorations in the form of precious stones. They can be made teardrop-shaped, then they will not look so heavy, since we are talking about the princess's crown. It should be more elegant and not overloaded with details. The inside of the drawn "drops" can be immediately lightly colored with simple shading (first with a pencil, then with a marker).
Finally, you can apply just a few strokes that will give a hint of shadow. For example, barely noticeable strokes can be applied to the left part of the upper circles and to the crown itself.

You can go further, painting the image a little more actively and adding sharper highlights. Even in black and white, such a crown will look beautiful and bright. Or you can use watercolor paints.

When drawing a crown, it is necessary to take into account that such regalia do not bring any practical use. With the help of such accessories, kings and queens had to demonstrate their power, to stun the people with what decorations were available to them. Therefore, you can add a variety of patterns, showing your imagination.

For example, you can ask your child to come up with a crown that his favorite character or even an alien could wear. Based on the drawing, you can make a headdress out of paper, adding volumetric elements, beads, etc. As a result, drawing can turn into a whole theatrical performance.

At the same time, the child will learn a lot of new and interesting things about regalia, why only heads of state can wear them, which countries still have kings and queens. For example, you can tell about Great Britain, where there are still no presidents, and the government is carried out by the queen.
