Many craftswomen, starting to knit, want to finish it as soon as possible create a wardrobe item with your own hands. A cocoon cardigan knitted with knitting needles according to the pattern is suitable for these purposes. It knits quickly and suits any type of figure.
Features of the model
A cocoon cardigan, knitted according to the knitting pattern, can be made as a single piece or as one continuous pattern. This allows beginner needlewomen not to get confused while knitting and make fewer mistakes.
In general, all models can be divided into 2 types:
- rectangular;
- T-shaped
T-shaped
This model consists of several squares that need to be knitted as a single piece. There is no need to measure the armhole or measure the neckline. The T-shaped cocoon cardigan consists of 4 squares folded and bent so that they resemble the letter T in shape.
Rectangular
The rectangular model of the cocoon cardigan is considered the simplest. Here the width and length depend on the pre-measured dimensions of the cardigan. For convenience, the sweater can be knitted along the shorter side.
If the pattern is simple, you can knit the fabric in one direction. If the pattern is more complex, it is recommended to knit the work in 2 directions from the middle. This will make the pattern on the sleeves more symmetrical.
Yarn and patterns
The choice of yarn depends on the time of year in which the product will be worn. For example, on cold autumn days, it is recommended to give preference to thick yarn containing wool or cashmere.
In cool summer weather, such as May or early August, you can wear cardigans knitted from cotton or thin mohair threads. However, a long cotton cardigan can be heavy and uncomfortable to wear.
Thin and fluffy mohair threads allow you to create beautiful and elegant items that can be worn both in spring and late summer. Since mohair thread is very thin and fluffy, it can easily get tangled. To prevent such a thread from breaking during knitting and while wearing a cardigan, you can mix it with the same thin thread, for example, acrylic.
However, you should not knit a cocoon cardigan from synthetic yarn, since it does not allow air to pass through and such a cardigan will be too hot.
A cocoon cardigan with knitting needles, the pattern of which can be suitable for beginner needlewomen, is most often knitted using a simple pattern.
So, we can highlight the following popular patterns for a cardigan knitted in one piece.
Offset columns | The pattern uses edge, front and back loops. 1. Start all rows with edge loops. 2. Between them, repeat the alternation of front and back loops. 3. Continue knitting until the end of the cardigan. |
Rice | 1. Rows in this pattern begin with edge loops.
2. Between rows, repeat the combination of front and back loops. 3. The finished report is shaped like grains of rice. |
Garter stitch | In this pattern, the front rows are knitted with purl stitches, and the back rows are knitted with knit stitches.
This type of knitted fabric is considered one of the simplest. |
Pearl knitting | 1. In the 1st row, knit a combination of 1 front loop and 1 back loop.

Job Description
A cocoon cardigan with knitting needles, the pattern of which is very popular among beginner knitters, is knitted quickly and easily. Such works can be used to practice knitting skills of a particular pattern.
To make the cardigan neater, you can tie the sleeves and edges of the finished product after knitting the main fabric of the work.
Main detail
A knitted cocoon cardigan, the pattern of which is suitable for all types of yarn, is knitted according to the following simple master class. Using these steps, you can slightly change the pattern and get different ready-made cardigans.
For work you will need the following materials:
- yarn of several or one color;
- knitting needles that match the type of yarn;
- pins to collect loops, extra thread;
- markers to count rows
You need to start work in this way:
- Cast on the required number of loops with a hook. Leave the end of the working thread free. You can use it to sew the loops of the front part of the cardigan.
- Remove the last loop from the braided plait.
- In the 1st row, start knitting from the edge loop, knit everything with front loops.
- In the following rows, knit the edge loops with simple edge loops: remove 1 loop in the row from the needles and do not knit. The last loop in the row is a purl.
- Knit as many rows as needed for the finished cardigan.
- At the end of the row, transfer the threads to additional knitting needles or a cable. Leave a 30 cm tail on the thread so that you can sew the loops with it.
Harness
The edges of the cardigan can be finished with a cord-edging. To make the connecting seams invisible, you can tie from the middle of the edge of the fabric. To find the middle of the part, you can bend it in half, the center of the fold will be the middle.
After this, carry out the binding according to the following scheme:
- Transfer edge stitches to circular cable needles.
- Collect all edge loops to the end of the fabric.
- Fold the piece along the longest part and gather the edge loops of the other edge.
- Return to the other side and pick up the remaining loops.
- Cast on a braid on the same circular needles. Remove 4 stitches from it with yarn of a different color. Move the working yarn so that it is on the left.
- Add 1 edge loop to them. Knit it together with the first loop in the cord. Knit the other loops. The working thread should be on the left, and the knitted loops - on the right.
- Transfer 5 stitches to the left needle, repeat until you run out of edge stitches.
- Remove the thread at the beginning of the cord. Sew open loops, bring the thread to the wrong side and cut off the excess.
Sleeve design
To tie the middle loops and tie with the same cord that was used to tie the rest of the cardigan. To keep the outer loops out of the way, move them to pins and sew the edges of the cord that forms the sleeves.
The knitted cocoon cardigan, the pattern of which consists of a single piece of fabric, also needs to be bound with sleeves. To do this, you need to sew the loops along the edges and tie the remaining loops with edging. Hide all the ends of the threads in the work and process: wash with a special agent and dry horizontally.
