The theme of folk tales is very popular in children's drawings. Young authors strive to depict their impressions of fairy tales, draw heroes, events, magical phenomena. A fairy tale that can be suggested to children to create interesting works is "The Scarlet Flower".
General rules for drawing a magic flower
"The Scarlet Flower" (a drawing based on a Russian folk tale reproduces the main plot twists) is a flower that is not like ordinary plants. The magical image has absorbed the features of other unusual flowers - roses, adonis, lilies, tulips.
To bring a wonderful plant to life on a piece of paper, the child is asked to use a little imagination, remember the plot of the fairy tale and tell about the magic plant:
- how it relates to the characters in the story;
- what miracles happened after the merchant picked the flower;
- what shining scarlet petals might look like.
The story will captivate young authors and help them to call upon inspiration.
For a successful drawing result, follow the general rules for depicting a fairy-tale flower:
- On paper, begin constructing the stem and center of the plant - these elements will be the center of symmetry for the petals and leaves.
- Then, in turn, draw the large petals located in the foreground and background.
- They move on to outlining the elongated leaves that originate from the bottom of the stem.
- They select paints, pencils, and markers to color the picture.
- If you plan to make a drawing based on the events of a fairy tale, you must first decide where the characters of the story and the surrounding details will be compositionally located.
Simple pencil drawing
The scarlet flower (a drawing on the theme of a fairy tale can be a "portrait" of a wonderful plant) begins to be depicted with a simple pencil sketch. Gradually, starting from the center of the flower, a large mass of blossoming petals is outlined. The stem is necessarily complemented with 6 oblong leaves.
The magic of the image is emphasized by the symmetry of the details relative to the center. Comparisons with various types of folk painting (during the lesson you can look at examples of Gorodets and Khokhloma floral elements) will help to add a fairytale and uniqueness to the outlines of the flower.

How to draw
The work is carried out sequentially, placing the paper vertically on the surface of the table.

How to complete a drawing
In the final stage of the work, the wonderful plant is given a "shine" by drop-shaped details near the middle of the stem - in folk painting they are called "ogivki". The mass of leaves is complemented by two small rounded details resembling a birch leaf on a long stem.
At the very top of the central drop-shaped element, depict 3 stamens with circles-peaks. Additional axes and lines are carefully erased with an eraser. The outline drawing of the scarlet flower is ready.
With colored pencils
The drawing on the theme of a magic flower can be colored with bright colored pencils or crayons. "Scarlet" means scarlet, red. Together with the young artist, similar warm shades are selected.
Darker colors are suitable for adding volume to details. Light yellow, lemon pencils are used to depict the glow of the fairy plant.
What tools will you need?
The following will be useful in your work:
- not too thin album sheet;
- simple hard-soft pencil;
- eraser;
- colored pencils with bright soft leads.
Watercolor pencil sets are well suited for coloring. They can be used to draw without using water, the soft lead of the tools leaves bright, dense strokes. But when using such sets, choose watercolor paper, matte cardboard.
Ready-made sets of 24, 18 regular colored pencils or crayons usually contain several shades of red and green, which will additionally help when coloring the drawing.
From a small 12-pencil set you will need the basic colors:
- orange;
- red;
- crimson;
- grassy green;
- emerald.
The combination of colors close in tone in one detail according to the principle "from light to dark" will create iridescence, volume of the drawing. The finished work will look more picturesque.
How to draw
The illustration shows an example of a colored scarlet flower from a fairy tale. On the right is a variant of a simpler 10-petal flower, here it is important to have many additional decorative details of the composition (curls, herbs, small buds).
Their author can optionally draw on the initial pencil sketch. On a sheet of paper, they determine the location of the main element - a wonderful flowering plant, then they do all the work step by step.

How to complete a drawing
With the wide side of the lemon chalk, create a "glow" around the petals. Closer to the edges of the sheet, add bright yellow and orange shading. Draw so that the viewer feels as if the wonderful scarlet flower "radiates" with light, like the sun.
Dark orange shades add the outlines of the forest ground - the area at the bottom of the sheet of paper. Picturesqueness will be given to the work by additional not too thin edging on the underside of the plant leaves. For this, blue and emerald colors are used.
Drawing by the shape of the palm
The Scarlet Flower (a drawing on the theme of a fairy tale can be offered in a lesson with younger preschoolers) is easy to depict using a palm print. Using the tops of the outline of 5 fingers, kids can easily outline the blossoming petals on the stem with leaves below.

How to draw
The simplicity of the flower's construction suggests the simplicity of coloring. Children aged 3-5 can be offered to color the drawing with bright red and green colors. For this, each artist chooses the tools to work with: paints, crayons, markers, pencils.
To get a wonderful image in color, first on a sheet of paper placed vertically, simple geometric constructions are performed. They will help in the error-free depiction of the scarlet flower.
It is better to draw circles with a compass using an adult or choose any round object of a suitable diameter for tracing. The table describes each step of the work in detail.

How to complete a drawing
If the drawing was done with pencils or felt-tip pens, you can use thin colored markers to enhance the outline of the details, choosing the outline of the corresponding shades. The work painted with water-based paints can be finished with dotted white highlights on the stamens, "flecks".
Drawing based on the plot of the fairy tale
The Scarlet Flower (a drawing on the theme of the main events of the fairy tale) can be present in works depicting the heroes of the story - the merchant, his daughter, the forest monster. Remembering the plot of the wonderful story, capturing it on paper, the young artist relives his emotions, embodies them in drawings.
The fairy tale action takes place in a merchant's tower, a dense forest wilderness, the abode of an enchanted monster. Young artists are invited to draw pictures depicting the main moments of the plot.
The main points are:
- A merchant who found himself in a magical forest during his journey.
- A merchant who returned from a journey and presented a scarlet flower to his youngest daughter.
- The merchant's daughter Nastenka, with a long-awaited scarlet flower in her hands, voluntarily went to the unknown forest owner.
- The forest monster is the enchanted master of the forest and the wonderful flower.
- The ending of the fairy tale is Nastenka and the good fellow, who was initially turned into a forest monster by evil spells.

Since it is suggested to color the work with any tools, Each young author selects the necessary accessories for himself:
- thick paper sheets of A4 or A3 format;
- eraser;
- simple soft pencils;
- sharpener;
- paints, brushes;
- colored pencils, crayons;
- felt-tip pens, markers, colored gel pens.
How to draw
The drawing is placed on a horizontally unfolded sheet. The peculiarity of the composition is a magical palace that opens up to the merchant on the edge of a dense forest thicket. In the foreground, you can depict part of a wonderful garden where a scarlet flower grows.
