Preparation of materials and tools for work

In order not to waste time on measurements and making patterns, you can take things from the child's wardrobe that are his size, but have already lost their presentable appearance. You will need simple-cut pants (without pockets, with an elastic band), a sweatshirt, a vest. All things need to be carefully ripped apart along the seams with a blade or sharp scissors.

Smooth them out and trace all the details on thick paper with a pencil. Afterwards, the patterns will need to be given even shapes. Draw the armholes of the sleeves and collars more clearly. Remove all uneven lines and add seam allowances of 1-1.5 cm. Once the blanks are drawn, all that remains is to cut them out and transfer them to the fabric.

What else is needed to sew the suit:

sewing machine;
a set of colored threads for sewing;
wide elastic band;
narrow elastic band of black color;
lighter;
sewing needle;
iron;
safety pins;
1 large regular pin;
water-soluble markers or a piece of chalk;
scissors.

How to sew a simple and beautiful pirate costume for a boy yourself

It is not difficult to make a pirate costume for a boy with your own hands. The main thing is not to make a mistake with the sizes. When tracing the details of old, already ripped things, it is important not to forget about seam allowances. Those who are afraid to "mistake", it is better to leave a little more fabric for allowances. It is equally important to pin the prepared parts of the clothes together with pins and try them on the boy before sewing.

Trousers

The pattern for pirate pants should consist of 5 parts. 2 front parts of the legs, 2 back parts, 1 belt.

Algorithm of actions:

Transfer all the pattern pieces onto the fabric using water-soluble markers or a piece of chalk. Cut them out.
Turn up the bottom edges of the legs on all pieces.
Iron the folds.
Insert a thread of a suitable color into the machine.
Carefully stitch the bottom of each leg.
Place the front and back pieces of the trousers on top of each other with the right sides facing inwards.

Fold the fabric along the edges by 1-1.5 cm. These will be seam allowances.
Iron the folds and then secure with safety pins.
Sew the inner parts of the legs, connecting them together.
Sew the back and front pieces together.
Stitch the pants along the outer edges.
Fold the belt blank in half, right sides together. Stitch the bottom edge.
Fold the top of the pants, iron the folds. If necessary, secure the fold with pins.
Turn the waistband right side out. Stitch it to the top of the pants so that the unstitched edges remain on the back of the garment.

Turn the pants right side out.
Cut a piece of wide elastic band. It should be slightly smaller than the child's waist circumference.
Singe the edges of the ribbon with a lighter to prevent them from unraveling.
Using a regular pin, thread the ribbon through the drawstring.
Sew the edges of the ribbon together by hand.
Hand sew up the hole in the waistband.

Straighten the product, iron it if necessary, turning it inside out first. As a decoration, you can sew square patches of red or black fabric onto the knees of the pants.

Sailor's vest

The striped shirt pattern consists of 4 parts: front, back, 2 sleeves. When transferring the pattern, it is important to watch how the stripes are located on the fabric. They should be horizontal on all parts of the striped shirt.

How to sew:

Cut out all the pieces from striped fabric.
Insert white threads into the machine.
Fold the bottom of the front and back, iron the folds and stitch separately.
Sew the neckline in the same way on both parts.
Hem the lower edges of the sleeves as well.
Connect the back and front, placing them on top of each other, right sides together.
Fold the seams on the shoulders, iron them, and secure with pins.
Sew both seams.

Expand detail.
Attach the sleeves to the armholes. Fold the edges and iron them. Sew the sleeves to the front and back.
Fold the piece in half again, joining the edges of the front and back, as well as the lower parts of the sleeves.
Fold the edges on the sides of the vest, as well as on the sleeves, at the bottom.
Iron all folds, secure with pins. Machine stitch.
Turn the vest inside out.

If you can't find suitable fabric, you can sew a striped shirt from white calico or cotton, and then draw the stripe by hand using fabric paint or regular gouache (provided that this shirt will be worn only once).

The striped shirt can be replaced with a pirate shirt. An old, washed-out white shirt will do for its manufacture. Even if it has large stains, this is not considered a disadvantage; on the contrary, it will add realism to the image.

Pirates have never been known for their neatness. Cut off the cuffs from the shirt sleeves and casually "shred" the fabric with scissors, cutting off long strips. Some of them can be left hanging. You can also cut off the collar and trim the bottom edges.

If you don't have a white shirt at hand, a T-shirt will do. Its sleeves, collar and edges should be cut with scissors in the same way as the shirt. Sometimes it happens that you don't have a white shirt, a white T-shirt or fabric for sewing. Then you can use a plain T-shirt (without pictures or inscriptions) in black, blue or red. A dark T-shirt with skull pictures will also do.

Vest

The vest pattern consists of 3 parts: the back and 2 front parts. If you can't find a worn vest, you can use patterns cut out along the contour of an old sweatshirt. This should be done after the vest has been sewn. The front part of the pattern will need to be divided in half vertically, from the middle of the neck to the bottom. You will get 2 identical front parts.

How to sew a vest:

Cut out the blanks.
Fold the bottom edges of each piece, iron the folds and stitch on a sewing machine.
Fold the armholes under and sew in the same way.
Connect the 2 front pieces to the back piece, placing them right sides together.
Turn up the seams on the shoulders and iron them.
Sew these seams and the side seams.
Turn the product right side out.

How and what you can decorate a vest with:

sew large metal buttons onto the right half of the front of the vest;
sew a patch in the form of a pirate symbol onto the back;
trim the edges of the garment and armholes with gold or red braid.

If denim fabric was chosen for sewing the vest, then the lower edge of the product can be left unhemmed, but on the contrary, unraveled. A small fringe (1-2 cm) will give the appearance of a little pirate a spirit of rebellion. The vest can also be decorated with a parrot sewn from hard multi-colored felt.

What you will need to sew a parrot:

felt in red, white, black and green;
scissors;
colored threads;
synthetic padding.

How to sew:

Cut out 2 identical parrot silhouettes (head, beak, body, tail) from red fabric.
Sew the pieces together, leaving a small opening at the back for stuffing.
Fill the blank tightly with filling.
Sew the hole.
Cut out 2 wings from green felt.
Cut out 2 circles from white felt. These will be the eyes.
Sew the prepared parts to the bird's body.
Cut out pupils from black felt and sew them on, placing them in the center of the white circles.

Sew the parrot to the shoulder seam of the vest. To make sure the bird sits tightly and doesn't fall to the side, you need to sew it with thick threads (4-thread floss will do) using an overcast stitch. If the parrot still doesn't sit as it should, you can sew it a little lower, securing it with small stitches on the sides.

Hat

A pirate costume for a boy (you can sew a hat with your own hands in 25 minutes) will not look harmonious without a beautiful headdress. Felt for sewing a pirate cocked hat should be stiff to hold its shape well. Before starting work, you need to measure the circumference of the child's head, and also determine the height of the brim of the hat.

Procedure:

Cut out a circle from felt, which will be the main part of the hat, as well as the side parts.
Sew the edges to the base.
Cut out the brim. Its width is equal to the height of the hat.
Trim the edges of the brim with gold, red or silver braid.
Sew the brim to the bottom edge of the garment.

From soft black felt, cut out 2 circles of a diameter that will cover the child’s eye.
Measure the circumference of your head in the area where the bandage will be attached.
From a narrow elastic band of black color, cut off a piece smaller than the head circumference by 1-2 cm. The more elastic the elastic band, the more freely it will hold. It is important to make sure that during active games the bandage does not fall off the child's head.
Singe the edges of the elastic band with a lighter to prevent it from unraveling.
Sew each edge of the ribbon to the circle.
Place another felt circle on top and sew the edges by hand. You can use white threads to make the seams visible.

The bandage can be decorated with an embroidery in the form of a skull and crossbones on the bottom, or you can paint such a symbol with white acrylic paints directly on top of the felt.

Shoes

A pirate costume for a boy (it is impossible to make shoes quickly with your own hands, so you will have to buy them or decorate the ones you have) should be complemented with high-calf boots. For this, you can buy plain black or brown rubber boots and decorate them with gold buttons or belt scraps with small metal buckles.

This option is suitable for children over 7 years old. It will be uncomfortable and difficult for little ones to run in rubber boots during the festive event. A little boy can wear patent leather shoes with a pointed toe, or dark sandals with closed toes.

Use gold gouache as a decoration. Apply the paint with a dry brush to the sandal fasteners or to the toes and heels of the shoes. After the party, the gouache can be easily wiped off the shoes with a damp cloth.

Scarf on the neck

The scarf is the simplest element of the costume. You need to cut a 110x110 cm square from red fabric. You can overcast the edges of the scarf on an overlock, or leave it as is. Untreated fabric will give the costume a slight carelessness, which was typical of pirates.

Making costume elements quickly from scrap materials

A pirate costume for a boy can be complemented with interesting accessories made by hand. Making each item will not take more than 20 minutes.

To make it comfortable for the child to play at the party, at least 2 loops should be made on the belt, into which toy weapons can be inserted and hands free. They can be sewn from belt scraps or from a wide elastic band.

Pirate hook

To make a hook you will need:

three-layer cardboard;
sharp knife;
simple pencil;
silver spray paint;
thin twine;
PVA glue.

Manufacturing process:

On three-layer cardboard, draw a sketch of a hook with a handle so that it is comfortable for the child to hold. If there is no thick one, you can use regular cardboard from boxes of household appliances. In this case, you will need to draw and cut out 2 identical parts, and then glue them together.
Cut out the blank with a sharp knife.
Carefully remove all burrs and other irregularities.
Paint the hook with spray paint on all sides.
Dry the workpiece.
Grease the hook handle with glue, wrap it with thin twine. Wait until the glue dries.

The twine can be replaced with thick yarn in brown, black or grey.

Belt

A pirate costume for a boy (you can sew an accessory from felt or canvas fabric with your own hands) needs to be complemented with a belt. Pirates wore several belts, which were not always held in special loops on their pants. They simply girdled themselves with them and tightened them tightly in the stomach area or on the waist.

To create such an element of the costume, any dark-colored belt will do. It can be braided, leather or fabric.

If the accessory is intended for adults, it can be shortened with a knife and additional holes can be made. If the plaque stands out too much in color, it should be painted with spray paint or acrylic paints in a metallic or bronze shade.

If you don’t have a belt, you can sew one from brown felt. To do this, you will need to cut out several strips about 5 cm wide and sew them together until you get an accessory of the desired length. Sew a buckle to one end and make a hole in the other. The felt belt should not be pulled too tightly, as it may tear.

Weapon

Like the hook, the weapon can be made from thick cardboard.

To make a sword and a pistol you will need:

black marker;
sharp knife;
