In order for your arms to come out of the sleeves freely, you need to measure the circumference of your wrist. The tape measure is wrapped around the wrist at its narrowest part.

The shoulder circumference is measured by "hugging" the area around the arm with a tape measure so that the tape goes under the armpit. The measurement is necessary to ensure that the product fits well. In the case of an oversized size, it is recommended to add 15 cm to the resulting measurement. To find out the armhole length, divide the previous measurement by 2.

To knit a sweater, you also need to know the neckline depth. This data will allow the product not to squeeze the neck and look beautiful from the front. It is determined for sweaters with a V-neck in the front. To do this, apply a centimeter from the hollow at the base of the neck and pull it down to the required length. At the back, this indicator will be equal to 0.

Now you can start calculating the number of loops needed for the work. To do this, knit a sample from the yarn from which the product will be created and measure how many loops there are per 1 cm. Knowing the width of the neck, which is equal to the neck circumference/2 and the depth of the cutout, you can start working.

For example, the neck width is 20 cm, and the product will be without a cutout, and in 1 cm there are 1.3 loops and 2.5 rows. Calculation: 20 * 1.3 = 26 loops. To knit the front, the resulting volume of the widest part is divided by 2 and the same manipulations are performed. Calculation: 100/2 * 1.3 = 65 loops.

To knit a sweater with English rib, you need:

1. Start by casting on the required number of stitches for the front (65 stitches).
2. Knit row 1 with a 2 by 2 rib pattern. Form 12 rows in this way.
3. Start from row 13 to create a fabric with English elastic.
4. Work this way for 112 rows.
5. Start with row 113 to make decreases for the neck. To do this, in every 3rd strip you need to remove 2 loops on each side.
6. When there are 26 loops left on the needles, close the work.

Knit the back of the sweater in the same way as the front. Now you need to make calculations for the sleeve set. For this, you will need the sleeve length, wrist circumference and shoulder circumference. These numbers, for example, are 42, 23 and 36 respectively.
